I love the end of this poem, it's like a meditation on the wild things of the earth.
Trembling with angst, we adopt meditative practices
Slip into streams of consciousness where the wild things are
Remember we are no different from the quolls, the dingoes,
So much going on with this @riverflows. A lament for the veracious predatory urges of humankind, even when we no longer have any need for them.
The thylacines became pests - wolf-like, they'd hunt sheep
And besides, there was not enough food
How could we accomodate all the wildlings?
I feel the sorrow and anger pouring from this poem, both mix together in bitter tonic. Great poetry makes us feel emotion, and this certainly fulfilled that remit!
Thank you so much. This means the world to me full stop sometimes poetry just come without a lot of meditation on themes and sometimes there is a bit of both. I like what you say about the predatory nature of mankind as subconsciously I think I was drawing a parallel between the early settlers as Hunters with huge appetites who surpassed the Tasmanian tiger as a hunter. To overcome what we have done we have to inhabit the wild spaces and to consciously re-wild them ourselves by identifying with the wild as well. A reculturing is necessary... it is the biggest blessing we can bestow on our children and the very earth itself xx

Absolutely right! I think humans are at the precipice where making a choice between a voracious need to create more and more technology and systems that mainly do nothing other than consume energy, or simplify and reconnect with the natural world.
Maybe we can evolve toward a happy medium. I hope so!
I want to live so badly in the wild, but I don't want to be a hermit. Let's build a low-tech community with solar panels for energy and use only bushcraft tools. Please say yeees :(
