Indonesian Movie Review [Kuntilanak]
After successfully working on the film Jelangkung, director Rizal Mantovani again gushed a Horror film with the title Kuntilanak. For the main star, Rizal chose Evan Sanders (Dealova), Julie Estelle (Alexandria), and Ratu Felisha. Just like other horror films, Kuntilanak presents the fear and horror for the audience.
Kuntilanak, takes the story of a student named Sam (Julie Estelle) who is always haunted by nightmares. Living with his stepfather made Sam choose a boarding house with an old building in the suburbs of Jakarta. Sam has a lover named Agung (Evan Sanders) who is trying to help Sam to overcome his nightmare.
However, Sam is very closed to Agung, so often Agung thinks that Sam does not want to give more portions to him as a lover. At the boarding house with an old building, Sam became acquainted with Dinda (Ratu Felisha), a girl with gothic makeup. Sam still can't get rid of his nightmare.
Sam's presence in the boarding house turned out to be disastrous to some boarding friends. One by one the victims began to fall with death that was devastating. Sam, an old house, with the mystery of Kuntilanak's subtle creature turned out to have a strong connection.
Rizal Mantovani's dough in this film can be said to be quite good. Spooky atmosphere and thrilling breasts can be enjoyed by teenagers audiences who really like the horror film genre. The choice of location for an old and haunted boarding house can be said to be of more value to Rizal, the scary and haunted impression for the audience can be seen in the boarding house.
The results of research conducted by Rizal to find a Kuntilanak figure to support this film seems not in vain. Kuntilanak figure looks quite unique and quite scary. If in some horror films scenes that surprise the audience quite a lot, but in this film the scene does not seem to be the mainstay.
More value from the Kuntilanak film produced by Multivision Pictures, the tension does not only occur when Kuntilanak will kill the victim but the scene when Sam (Julie Estelle) recites an Old Javanese song with a sharp look enough to add to the horror of this film. Sam's unusual vomiting scene seemed normal.
However, for a student who has more education Sam should go to the doctor to examine it. But this did not happen in this film. so to speak the logic of Jelangkung's story seems to still lead compared to this film. An odd dialogue also occurred during the quarrel between Sam and Agung. Dialogue Sam and Agung look like when watching a telenovela on television. This also becomes a shortage of Kuntilanak films.
Julie Estelle's acting as an introverted girl is quite good. Julie Estelle is able to play her character when it has to be closed and where to act as scary as possible. The Javanese song she sang with a scary expression became more point for Julie Estelle.
Evan Sanders appeared unconvincing and still seemed very ordinary. The scene at the beginning of the film when Agung talks with the supervisor is not rigid. But when he entered the middle and end of the film, Evan's acting was very ordinary.
Especially when Evan has to undergo a Crying Scenes scene that looks not optimal. Ratu Felisha, who plays the character of Dinda who is ignorant and very metropolis, looks quite good. Jakarta's acting style of children who are familiar in the boarding house is enough to meet the criteria of a Dinda. The comedy nuance that was performed by Sofyan Dado became a fresh spice in this film.
Overall the Kuntilanak film can be said to be good enough to fulfill the criteria of a horror film. Rizal as usual in working on widescreen movies looks can not be separated from his trademark who often works on a video clip. Spooky cinematography mixed to be beautiful is still often seen. The results of Rizal's research on the mystical story of Kuntilanak which has various versions can be mixed together well. Spooky, mystical aromas and shades of horror mixed well. For those of you who like Jelangkung, the Kuntilanak film promises the same thing. Have a good time watching.
