Advice to preserve the culture in Sri Lanka

in History and Culture3 years ago

Hello Everyone,

In my last article I wrote about the historical and cultural value of my mother country.

Today, I am glad to have something to talk about how we could preserve it at a time when there is an interest in rewriting history. My idea is to preserve our culture can only be done when we accept it.

In today's society, there is a perspective that, there is no value for the history and has no sense of objective reality or truth. That is a big challenge. But we have to overcome that challenge. The study of history is extremely important in identifying and maintaining traditions. We respect our traditions through cultural celebrations and by teaching our youth about the great people of the past.

Of course, keeping in touch with your family, relatives and friends can help preserve your culture. For that, first we have to start living according to the traditions of the family. Our grand parents brings so much knowledge and traditions from their own experiences. Furthermore, I think touring is a great way to build a community value on culture, historical resources, and ancient architecture. It gives you and your children a chance to learn about our past.

Lack of awareness leads to the destruction of cultures and languages and is a significant loss to people. Therefore, it is important to have an education. Culture teaches not only something about our past but also religion. Every religion believes in something different but every religion teaches a lesson. About our world and about us. What is the life of man in the world and will also teach us about the past.

You can also preserve the culture by sharing the cultural tradition with others. We have traditions that we have grown up with since childhood, be that a daily habit, celebration, or even food culture. One of the best ways to preserve your traditions is to keep training them and grab the essential knowledge behind that tradition. I think there is nothing better than sharing the traditions you love with your friends or colleagues.

The new generation ignores many traditions and follows the latest trends. There are very few among the older generation who are well versed in various art and cultural forms. The younger generation needs to be convinced of the need and importance of capturing such vast information from their elders so that no art becomes extinct.

However, if the purpose of preserving culture is to preserve objects and places that give meaning to the lives of the people and to connect their history and heritage with the present, then we have a responsibility to preserve our culture. Otherwise, the new generation will have no culture or tradition to follow.

Thank you. I invite @nishadi88, @inudi, @shaakya, to participate this contest.
