Dear diary,

My day 30/5/26, began with a soft nag from my alarm by 5am trying to wake me up. I said trying because I put it off as my soul was in need of extra sleep. A much needed sleep I’d say because the night was a bit short and restless.

For some reason I can’t seem to lay my hand on, my sleep wasn’t as peaceful as I had envisaged due to some dreams in between that I cant start to talk about now.

I lay tired in bed but had to drag myself up as my alarm began to ring again indicating it was 6am. 6am already? Well, the 5am alarm just rang and how did it such get to 6am now, I stretched my weary hands to turn off the alarm again while dragging myself up from the bed.

How time flies these days, I murmured to myself. Well, am I the only one that has noticed that time seems to be disappearing these days. I sat up in bed and began my quiet time of praying. I had a good time to spend with the Lord and also read my Bible and did my devotional.

After my quiet time, a part of me still want to sleep in more but how could I when we have a wedding to attend. A church member was getting married as I was one of the administrators for the joining. The wedding was for 10am.

I hurried to the kitchen to fix a quick breakfast and after I had my bath. Just when I was ready to step out, the sky changed its look. The weather became dark and windy and then this windy rain started. Oh no, not today.

Well, I couldn't go out in the rain so I had to wait out the rain. It had waited for close to an hour and the rain was still falling though not as much as before. I had to take and umbrella and began my journey to join the people I was going to the wedding with.

My journey to meet them was a bit rough as the wind kept disturbing the umbrella and carrying up my gown. It was so embarrassing but I had to persevere. With gradual steps and wet legs, I waded through the flooded streets as I made my way to the bus stop.

I was able to get a ready tricycle as I journeyed to meet up with the others. When I got there, they were ready and waiting for me. I joined the car and we began the journey to the wedding venue. It was a company of three. Meanwhile the rain was still falling but not heavily anymore.

Its gentle tap tap was still dropping on the windshield of the car and the weather was still a bit gloomy. The journey to the wedding venue was a short and smooth one. When we arrived, the wedding hall was all set but the decorations had sound guys we’re still adding a little finishing touch here and there.

The bride and the groom were no where in sight. It was almost 11am. Well, I quickly jumped in as helped to set up the place for the joining. So it’s a triple event wedding. Set in the typical style of the western part of our country; Yoruba’s precisely.

This triple event was happening in the same venue. The church joining, the engagement (traditional rites) and the reception all in the same day. It was really fun me of a kind.

The wedding hall was beautifully adorn with round table and beautiful table clothes and decorations. There were flowers on the table and fancy lights.

There was a special place set for the officiating ministers and the parents of the bride and groom. There was another table I arranged for the wedding register signing. I helped to rearrange the front hall setting to suit the white wedding and joining.

Well, soonest we were all ready and set but the bride and groom was no where to be found. It’s already 12pm and tensions were rising. Everything was set except that our celebrants were no where to be seen.

The brides mum went in the company of a driver to fish them out and after sometime they returned and said they would be joining us in 30 minutes time. 30 minutes turned to another one hour. By 12:30 pm, we haven’t seen the bride and the groom.

At this juncture, tempers were flying up and down. Everyone was getting angry and agitating at the delay. The guests shave arrived gorgeously dressed and waiting. I was already exhausted from walking up and down with arrangements. I even had to remove the shoe I was wearing to put on a slippers while waiting.

Everyone including me was calling the bride and groom but they refused to pick their calls. This even drove the parents crazier. I had to tell the officiating minister to call the bride and she finally picked her call and said they were close.

It was almost 1pm. A wedding slated for 10am. The bride arrived very tensed and close to tears obviously from all the calls and shoutings of her relatives. Well, I knew that I cannot to add to her dilemma. I had to do something different.

I had to tell her that she was looking beautiful and that she should breath in and relax. I said other comforting words to take the tension off her shoulders. Then she relaxed a little and I ensured the other things were ready and by 1pm, we started the wedding.

Because we were already late, the joining had to be very brisk. We did the opening prayers first and then the matching in of the bride. She was looking all beautiful as her dad walked her down the red carpeted aisle.

After the matching in was the legal charge and then the exchange of vows and the rings. And then it was time to kiss the bride. After that we proceeded to the signing of the register by the couple and the officiating ministers and guests.

Then the pastor went ahead to give them a brief charge on how to love and respect each other in order to keep their wedding peaceful. After all these came the photo section where the couple took some pictures with the officiating ministers and the parents.

I picked up the refreshments package that was for us and we took our leave while the photo session was going on. We didn’t stay with for the other part of the occasions. The officiating minister had other engagements for the day and we had to run along.

IMG_5645.jpegfood calls

When we got home, it was almost 3pm. Hunger pangs were already calling and we had to settle down to eat the food given to us. It was jollof rice and smoked fish. A very sweet delicacy befitting of the occasion.

After eating, I laid down to catch some sleep but the sleep didn’t want to be caught. After effortlessly trying to sleep to no avail, I stood up on the bed and gisted with my colleague for a while before packing up my stuff to leave for my house.

Well, I had to stop over at a mini mart to buy some snacks and drinks for dinner. I got home at about 8pm and then prepared water melon smoothie to take along side the plantain chips snacks. After eating, I had a quick bath and it was time to retire for the night.

Saturdays they say are for weddings and this one was well befitting. A day memorable.
