A glimpse of where we raise the apple crop.

Today I came up with a video in which I show you one of the orchards located right at the top of a hill. Reaching this place is not easy at all, as we have to walk all the way from the roadside up to the hilltop, covering quite a distance. This is where we actually put in immense hard work to raise the crop and maintain its quality and standard so that, by the end of the year, we can export it and earn good returns from it.

These orchards, along with the soil found on these hill slopes, are highly suitable for apple cultivation. Even our ancestors used to grow apples here and send the produce to Rawalpindi during the time of undivided India. The apples from this region were very popular there. I have often heard from our elders that the apples grown in these hilltop areas, locally known as Kawkoot, were once in great demand because of their size, shape, colour, and purity.

Since this area is located far away and at a much higher altitude than the adjoining regions, the crop here remains less affected by fungal diseases. Because of that, we require very little use of fungicides, which makes these apples healthier and truly worthy of the saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

It was actually my friend who invited me to accompany him to this orchard, and I quickly agreed because I knew it would be an exciting experience for both of us. We spent some quality time there while checking the apple trees for any signs of fungus or pests and to see whether there was any need for spraying pesticides. Although only a small quantity of sprays is required here a couple of times a year, we still need to stay vigilant because raising a good-quality crop demands constant care and attention.

In this video, you can also see the small apples currently growing on the trees. This is still an early stage, and with time they will grow bigger, fuller, and more attractive. The unique colour these apples develop is mainly because these orchards are located on hilltops where the trees receive abundant sunlight throughout the day, which helps improve the quality of the fruit.

Being on top of the hill has always given me peace. I truly love spending time there in complete serenity while looking over the surrounding villages. It feels refreshing to be close to nature in an environment with very little pollution, chemicals, or excessive use of medicines and pesticides.

Anyways, we had a wonderful time there, and I hope you enjoy the video as well. Do leave a comment and let me know if there is anything I should improve in my videography. Thank you.
