BIWTA Floating Dockyard,Shyampur is an important industrial and maritime activity site in Dhaka. It is mainly known for ship repair, maintenance, and various types of technical work. Even amidst the busy city life of Dhaka, a different picture of river-centric activity is seen when you visit this ghat. Small and big launches, cargo ships, trawlers, and other vessels come and go here every day. As a result, the place is always lively. When I go to BIWTA Floating Dockyard,Shyampur, the biggest attraction is the huge floating dock. This dock, floating on the river, is where large vessels are lifted and repaired. Seeing the coordinated work of skilled engineers, technicians, and workers, it is clear how much effort and skill is required to keep a vessel running. Their dedication is truly commendable. I have taken permission from the security department to enter here. There is a police security system next to it. It is run by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority.

The river environment around the ghat is also quite charming. In the morning, the sunlight falls on the river water, creating a beautiful scene. Again, in the afternoon, the boats moving slowly on the river and the cool breeze calm the mind. Although it is not a tourist center, the place is quite interesting to see the industry and river-centered life up close. There is a tourist center and a Bangladesh Army camp next to the dock. I went down the stairs into the middle of the river and took a few pictures.

Another special aspect of this wharf is that ship repairs are carried out here using various types of modern equipment. Sometimes complex work such as cleaning the bottom of the ship, painting, repairing the engine, or changing the iron structure is also done here. While watching these works, one gets the opportunity to learn something new about naval technology. Various parts of the ships are repaired here.
