My Rooftop Garden ||The Dairy Game || 1st February 2026
Assalamu Alaikum, how is everyone doing? I hope you are all well. By the grace of Allah, I am doing well too. Good morning to you all.
Today, I woke up and brushed my teeth as usual, then freshened up. It feels a bit warm today; it seems like the lingering winter chill is fading and summer is approaching. Because of that, I decided to take a shower early this morning. Afterward, I went to the rooftop to dry off and soak up some sunlight for a bit. While I was there, I took care of my rooftop garden plants.
I have some brinjal (eggplant) plants here, and I watered them. Look how fresh the plants look! There are two brinjal plants; although they are still small, flowers have already appeared. It looks like they will start bearing fruit soon. I’ll keep taking care of them and see when the brinjals grow. Since I can’t always be at home, my wife looks after these plants as well.
Right next to the brinjal plants, there is a bottle gourd vine. Bottle gourd is one of my favorite vegetables. I especially love eating it during the summer. When cooked with meat, the taste becomes twice as delicious! Moreover, bottle gourd has many health benefits. Let me share some of those benefits with you.
Benefits of Bottle Gourd (Lau):
Hydration: It has high water content, which keeps the body cool during summer.
Digestion: It is rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation and aids digestion.
Heart Health: It helps in maintaining blood pressure and is good for the heart.
Weight Loss: Since it is low in calories, it’s an excellent choice for those looking to lose weight.
Next to it, there is a sweet gourd (pumpkin) vine which is full of flowers. However, it is quite sad that these pumpkins are not surviving on the vine; they keep falling off. I am taking care of them, but I can't figure out why this is happening. Flowers appear and small fruits start to form, but then they just drop off.
I really enjoy fried sweet gourd, and it tastes wonderful when cooked with mutton. Sweet gourd also has some great nutritional qualities, which I’ll share with you:
Since i mentioned the fruits are dropping, it is likely due to a lack of pollination. In rooftop gardens, bees aren't always around to move pollen from the male flower to the female flower. I might want to try "Hand Pollination" in the morning to help the fruit stay on the vine!
Benefits of Sweet Gourd:
Rich in Vitamin A: Excellent for improving eyesight and skin health.
Boosts Immunity: Contains antioxidants that help the body fight off illnesses.
Regulates Blood Sugar: It has compounds that help in keeping blood sugar levels stable.
I also have tomato plants in my rooftop garden. One of the plants is heavily laden with tomatoes. Tomatoes are a favorite of mine for salads, and a salad made with fresh-picked tomatoes is absolutely delicious. Tomatoes also have several health benefits, which I will try to list below:
Benefits of Tomatoes:
Heart Health: They are rich in lycopene, which helps reduce the risk of heart disease.
Skin Care: The high vitamin C content helps keep your skin glowing and healthy.
Bone Strength: They contain Vitamin K and calcium, which are essential for maintaining strong bones.
After spending time on the roof, I came down and set out for work. I took my bike and headed over to Buri's shop (Buri-r Dokan). I visited a doctor there and then moved on to Pahartali. In Pahartali, I visited a few more doctors as part of my work routine.
Afterward, I returned home, had my meal, and took a little rest. Then, I headed out for work again. Once the workday was finished, I came back home in the evening and spent some quality time with my family.
That’s all for today. I hope you all stay well!
