Today's Writing, Tomorrow's Memories: The Travel Diary
When we hear the word travel, we think of joy, excitement, and the thrill of exploring a new place. Naturally, we all love to travel more or less to get rid of the monotony of life. But the trip on June 01, 2026, was completely different from all the other trips in my life. It was not a trip of joy or entertainment but rather a sudden journey to face an extreme reality, anxiety, and an irreparable loss in life. Today, I am trying to retain the memories of that sad trip in the pages of my diary.
Facing the Harsh Reality of Life

The holy Eid al-Adha holiday ended today, and my office will be open tomorrow. This Eid, we had no plans to go to our village with our family, so we celebrated Eid in Dhaka. The morning of June 1st started like any other ordinary day. I woke up, washed my hands and face, and was just planning the day's work. At that moment, a phone call suddenly came from the village. The news from the other side of the phone stunned us in an instant. I learned that my father-in-law's physical condition had suddenly deteriorated. Everyone was worried about his survival.
After hearing the news, there was no way to stay still for a moment in the house. My wife and I quickly packed up. Since the situation was very urgent and we had to leave quickly, none of us had the time or mental state to have breakfast. On an empty stomach, we quickly got ready and left the house. We rented a CNG. Just then, my mobile ringtone rang, and when I answered the phone, I heard a cry from the other side. The fear that made us quickly run away was real. I got the news that my father-in-law was no longer with us; he had taken his last breath (Inna lillahi wa na ilaihi rajiun).

It seems to me that the atmosphere of the entire CNG became heavy in the symbol. My wife's tears no longer accepted any obstacle. The hope that was there at the beginning of the journey to see her last, but halfway through, that hope was lost forever. Nature, rushed by the CNG informant, can seem strange and silent, hoping for a concept.

However, we reached the Dhaka Sadarghat Launch Terminal by CNG. From there, we boarded the launch called MV Juboraj 7 to leave for the village (Dhaka-Elisha). The ticket price for the launch was BDT 300 (per person). The launch left Sadarghat Terminal at exactly 12:30 pm and started moving along the river.

Since we had left home without eating at all, after boarding the launch, I bought some lychee, bread, cake and bananas for my younger daughter Muntaha, as a light snack. She will not be able to bear this mental stress and hunger like the adults.

I have traveled by launch many times before, but today's travel experience was a complete exception in my life. The crowd of passengers in the launch was not very large. The whole way, my wife's eyes were red with tears; she was crying continuously. Although the weather on the river was quite nice and calm, a storm was going on in our minds. To console her, I was trying to divert her mind by talking to her in different ways. At the same time, I was trying to keep her mind calm by walking around the deck of the launch with my little girl.

While I was in the launch, I told my mother the whole matter on the phone and asked my younger brother to come there quickly. When I got hungry around noon, I went to the launch canteen to inquire, and we ate fish, dal, and rice for lunch. I prayed to Allah on time inside the launch and offered my journey (passenger) prayers.

Our launch was still moving along the river. We prayed to God that we would arrive on time. It kept on feeling in our minds that the road would never end and that time would never pass.

Finally, after a long wait, the launch arrived at the terminal at 6:40 pm. We hurriedly got off the launch and took an auto-rickshaw to head home. When we reached home, the situation there was very deplorable. The entire house was in mourning. My father-in-law's body was wrapped in a shroud and kept completely prepared on the bed; everyone was just waiting for us to arrive. I saw his frozen face for the last time.
After the Isha prayers, his funeral prayers were held. After the funeral prayers, we buried him in the graveyard with a very heavy heart and returned home after praying for the forgiveness of his soul.
Since our village had a rural electricity connection, there was a big problem with electricity or power everywhere this summer. Due to repeated load shedding, the surroundings were immersed in darkness. It was quite late by the time all the procedures for our burial shroud were completed. Then we had dinner at my uncle-in-law's house. After finishing dinner, we all returned to my in-laws' house.
We start our days with simple plans, completely unaware of what the next moment holds. Losing my father-in-law has left a void in our family that can never be filled, and this sudden journey will forever remain etched in my heart as a document of profound grief. In my opinion, life moves on, but some memories stay with us as silent scars. I sincerely request, **Everyone, please pray for my father-in-law. May Allah grant him eternal peace in Jannah. (Ameen).**
