Huahine is different.
After spending time in Bora Bora, Taha and Moorea; Huahine was definitely more contrasty than the rest. An off the beaten path location for sure, where you can experience the island life as is, watching the locals stroll in a relaxed manner, chatting outside the stores, carrying baguettes like babies ... what else!
One thing I could not do here was relaxing at the beach, although I tried, we were more fascinated watching this young Tahitian, spending a couple of hours floating in the shallow waters and staring at the horizon, It was painfully beautiful and uncomfortable, so I decided to copy his zen approach, and after getting in position, I could not stay still for more than a couple of minutes, I found myself rolling in the waves and chasing a lonely seaweed underwater. Aneeka laughed as she couldn't believe my ability to concentrate and focus.
I figured that relaxing didn't hit me as much as the locals, maybe because the town was calling us to go and explore the riches of the land. Its people.
So there we went to buy a baguette or two, and spend the rest of the day in town, and it definitely was the highlight of this island.
