Coronavirus Update - Las Vegas- the city that never sleeps

Las Vegas is internationally known as “The city never sleeps” because of the casinos and gambling that has built this city over the last 60 years. Few cities have as many international tourists or rely solely on tourism for the survival of their livelihood.

What is Las Vegas today? Well, like all tourist cities across the globe it is quiet and hard hit. Hotel vacancy is at best 10% of the total rooms available.

Social distancing means you cannot stand next to another person. How does this work at the blackjack table? How does this work for the Vegas shows and bars? How does this work for all the employees who live on tips and tourism?

The lights are still lit. The signs are still flashing. But there is not a buzz in the air or excitement of the nightlife anymore.

This is what a global pandemic does to a global tourist destination. Who is going to pay the slot machines and “roll the dice” of who used the machine before you or who sits next to you?

The highways going into the city are less busy. The industries supporting the Las Vegas community are at risk as well. The Global community awaits a cure and only time will tell.

Las Vegas will come back. Tourism will come back. Will it be the same as before? Probably not. However, never bet against the future of this bustling town. Never bet against what lies ahead for a new beginning and that is what it will be...a new beginning for many places.

Don’t be discouraged by the numbers. Know that many good people and companies are on the case. Know that in time, this too shall pass.
