This is the English version of the post La rana bollita siamo noi (Epstein files), originally published in Italian in the ITALY community.

The boiled frog. How many times have we heard this metaphor used to describe one of the preferred methods of those in power to gradually make people accept measures that, if introduced all at once, would have sparked public outrage?

The reference is to an old cooking method once used for frogs: they were placed in a pot of cold water and the fire was lit underneath. The poor animals slowly grew accustomed to the rising heat and when it became unbearable, they no longer had the strength to jump out and avoid their fate.

Well, dear friends, judging by the immense landfill that has emerged from the so-called Epstein files (300 gigabytes of judicial documents and alleged evidence) and by the limited—if not nonexistent—reaction these revelations are generating on our side of the world, we can say with certainty that those boiled frogs are now us.

The Epstein files are said to contain some of the most disturbing, immoral, and grotesque allegations imaginable. Actions that we were used to considering pure fiction in horror movies or modern TV series, which at this point may even seem designed to accustom us to every kind of wickedness, every form of evil.

They allegedly involve politicians, Hollywood actors, financial magnates, extremely wealthy and powerful men and women who, bored with money, pushed beyond it—seeking to buy the only thing they still did not possess: human life. There is talk of adults, young people, and especially children (millions of children disappear worldwide every year), abused and exploited, in accounts describing horrors said to have taken place on remote islands where rules did not exist.

The accusations also extend to claims of engineered crises and pandemics, terrorist acts, rigged elections, and targeted eliminations of individuals inconvenient to those in power. Names that circulate in online discussions include former U.S. presidents such as Obama, Bill and Hillary Clinton, the Bush family, members of the British royal family, and public figures often described as philanthropists, such as Bill Gates or Al Gore.

Much of the American entertainment industry is frequently mentioned in online narratives surrounding the scandal, alongside athletes and well-known models such as Naomi Campbell. Lists of alleged names can be easily found online, and if you think of a prominent public figure, chances are someone, somewhere, has linked them to this story.

Meanwhile, we continue arguing about right or left, funding film and music industries, spending heavily on fashion, or defending the honor of large corporations—while all of this supposedly unfolds behind the scenes.

So why does the truth that has emerged not seem to provoke greater consequences? Because, like the frog mentioned earlier, we have become accustomed. This does not mean we consider evil good or justify it, but simply that we no longer have the strength—or perhaps the will—to react, to rebel.

Many comment that such things were “well known” or at least “imaginable,” yet at the same time “larger than us.” We observe, judge, feel scandalized for a moment, and then move on, because “that’s just how the world works.”

In other words, one spoonful at a time, even filth no longer seems so unbearable. We have grown desensitized and, without believing it to be right, we accept it as inevitable. And that is when we understand how this confused society—watered down in its values and accustomed to considering everything permissible—has definitively lost the game.

I think the boiled frog theory fits quite well with what's happening in society, which seems to feel neither amazement nor shock nor disgust at what's happening in the world, whether publicly or in the shadows. We're allowing an entire country like Palestine to be annihilated live and direct without protesting more than on social media, if anyone does. I believe, without any scientific evidence, that we've been reconfigured so that nothing disturbs us as long as it doesn't affect us personally... After all, it's been proven that experiments like MK Ultra weren't just conspiracy theories, and who knows how many more have been done without being declassified. What's worrying isn't that the bad guys do what they do, but that the good guys do nothing about it.

I also believe that this theory has some truth to it. Through various technologies (smartphones, the internet, video games, TV series), they have slowly extinguished our ability to feel empathy for others. And the effect is amplified in the younger generations. I am the parent of three children in their teens and pre-teens, so I am quite familiar with the world of teenagers: well, I can tell you that the situation is quite dramatic. Attention disorders are on the rise, they are almost unaware of what is right and wrong, and they have almost lost the ability to make friends and empathise with their peers.

I don’t have children, but I observe those around me, and they have even lost the notion of themselves; many of them behave like adults, especially in the way they treat their parents, whom they do not respect.

I also agree that behaviors are being manipulated, and I believe consciously, especially in content aimed at young children. The other day I watched a video about a program called CocoMelon or something like that, and according to what they say, it is shaping attention and, in short, the way the brain processes stimuli. We will see the results in a few more years, but we are already witnessing the effects of digitalization on teenagers and young people today. It is not very positive.

Is there absolutely no one, absolutely no one reading this, who has an opinion, who stands up and expresses their disgust? Anyone who dares to write about this? I did, and yes, I even shared the bag of (alleged) beef jerky (human flesh). And meanwhile, we all continue to consume the stuff of the greatest sinners because we believe it's a conspiracy theory that America is great. Let's just say it is indeed the land of unlimited possibilities, in the worst sense of the word. Not a word is said about all the invasions and wars that country has started this year. It's a shameful spectacle and also proof that we're among an incredibly large herd of stupid sheep. The people who will soon be the first to take credit when a small group sticks its neck out and fights back. We saw the same thing with the Covid-19 lies. Where are all those big mouths now, the know-it-alls, those who blame the Chinese, the Russians, and everyone who isn't American without proof? Too stupid or too afraid to say anything? A frog would definitely still speak out, and that's why, unlike lobsters, they're no longer boiled alive, but killed with a single blow to shut them up.

The so-called “conspiracy theories” are another great deception that has been fed to us. Absurd theories and other, far more plausible ones have been deliberately thrown into the huge cauldron of “conspiracy theories” to make the whole thing seem like some kind of crazy mishmash.
Do you have doubts about Covid? Conspiracy theorist! Do you think the world is ruled by a transnational elite? Conspiracy theorist! Do you think the powerful of the earth eat children? Conspiracy theorist!
And so, with that humiliating label, they silence those who dare to think outside the box.
And in the Epstein case, which they cannot reduce to a conspiracy theory, they rely on the inertia of the population, now addicted to everything.
And so, between those who dare not talk about it, those who (because they are uninformed) think it is just conspiracy theories, and those who prefer to mind their own business, the world goes on in indifference.

Thank you, much appreciated!

Reading your post really made me stop and think. The “boiled frog” metaphor is very powerful, it shows how easily people can get used to injustice when it happens slowly. Stories like the Epstein files are shocking, yet it’s easy to feel powerless or overwhelmed. Posts like this remind us that noticing what is happening is already a step forward.
I also thought a lot about how technology and modern life affect our attention. Social media, news, and entertainment constantly demand our focus, making it easy to ignore bigger problems. But recognizing this gives us a choice. We can pause, reflect, and try to stay aware, instead of simply accepting what happens around us.
The point about labeling inconvenient truths as “conspiracy theories” really stood out. That label often stops people from asking questions or thinking critically. But reading, reflecting, and talking about these issues is one way to resist that. Even small steps; staying informed, questioning what we hear, and sharing insights can make a difference.
Your post also made me think about my own role. How often do we scroll past serious news or focus only on ourselves? Becoming aware of this tendency is the first step to breaking it. Awareness, empathy, and discussion are tools we all have, and using them can help prevent indifference from taking over.
Thank you for sharing this perspective. It is a reminder to pay attention, reflect, and remain engaged. Even in a world that can feel overwhelming, awareness and thoughtfulness are ways we can keep our sense of humanity alive.

I will keep my visit , thinking of more posts like this...

Thank you for stopping by to read and for leaving your comments.
In my opinion, questioning every piece of news that comes from the official media is now essential in order not to be overwhelmed.
But even those in power have realised this. More and more people no longer trust television and newspapers, so they have activated “Plan B”: in recent years, a whole series of “gatekeepers” have sprung up like mushrooms, i.e. people who appear to be anti-establishment but whose job it is to attract people's discontent and anger and lead them down a dead end.
Unfortunately, it is not easy to untangle the web of lies on the Internet in search of the truth. You need to have the right antibodies, trust your instincts and seek out the most reliable sources possible. It is not easy, but it can be done.

I want to thank you for your response. I value your expansion of the idea and including Italian words in your response. It is my belief that we should strategically check the accuracy of information; however, we also need reliable sources so we can strike a balance between being overly sceptical to only believing everything in front of us, finding credible sources will allow us to remain open-minded without being too naïve or too distrusting. Dialogue like what we are engaged in here is beneficial.
@aboy01

and where do you find those reliable sources? You won't find them on the small part of the web we are allowed to see ... you will not find the answers if you ask AI...

Are you Italian that you are happy with the Italian text?

It's always good to question no matter who tells what. Teachers, parents, reporters, papers, radio... Everyone adds imagination, the part of the tunnel syndrome, and assumptions. Questioning is part of intelligence and broadens one's horizon.

just a pity the reply is written by AI.. very disappointing

Oh, really 😒? I didn't notice this time, it had an almost human tone...
It's a pity, it's so nice to chat with humans, what's the point of responding with AI 🤷‍♂️? @aboy01

That's how it goes... soon we can't tell the difference. It's that I bump a lot into him lately. Try to explain and guide, but there'not much improvement. It's getting worse with AI again.

How come 94% of what you wrote is detected as AI-generated text? Do you use a translator or don't you have an opinion of your own?
Well, at least it's a safe way of posting. You can always state that AI said it and not you.
I keep that in mind, who knows it saves me one day.
