statue..fruit....foot
In practicing bhakti yoga very often a murti (statue) of the spiritual master is meditated upon in the mood of service. This is a murti of my spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada. He told us a story about his spiritual master. (The teachings and practice come down in line of succession over time.)

One time his spiritual master (Srila Bhaktisiddhanta) as a child saw a mango that was placed on the altar for decoration and wanted to eat it. He felt very badly about that. And took a vow to never eat mango.

In India that is not such an easy vow to keep. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta was very strict and disciplined for his whole life in his bhakti yoga practice.

A beautiful story, a slice of ancient tradition. Thank you very much for joining , Jiva34. Welcome to the new edition and a big good luck! :)

It is always interesting to read the lessons you share. I wonder why it is hard not to eat mango. I rarely eat fruits and I can't remember I did a lot during my childhood.
