La COP delle foreste organizzata nel cuore dell'Amazzonia è finita senza misure concrete per fermare la deforestazione e senza un accordo su come abbandonare i combustibili fossili.

Per i combustibili fossili: nessuna roadmap.

Alla COP30 hanno visto fronteggiarsi una coalizione di volenterosi con oltre 80 Paesi favorevoli alla transizione dai combustibili fossili - tra cui Colombia, Regno Unito e Francia - e un gruppo guidato dall'Arabia Saudita, altri petrostati e la Russia.

Nessuna tabella di marcia nemmeno per fermare la deforestazione.

Si è arrivati soltanto a un accordo su base volontaria, e 6 miliardi di dollari promessi collettivamente a supporto delle comunità che lavorano per proteggere le foreste pluviali.

Quanto agli impegni presi dai vari Paesi per ridurre le emissioni di gas serra, i partecipanti alla COP30 avrebbero dovuto presentare nuovi impegni prima della conferenza, ma pochissimi l'hanno fatto.

The COP of the forests, held in the heart of the Amazon, ended without concrete measures to stop deforestation and without an agreement on how to phase out fossil fuels.

For fossil fuels: no roadmap.

At COP30, a coalition of more than 80 countries in favor of transitioning away from fossil fuels - including Colombia, the United Kingdom, and France - clashed with a group led by Saudi Arabia, other petrostates, and Russia.

No roadmap to stop deforestation either.

Negotiators reached only a voluntary agreement, along with 6 billion dollars collectively pledged to support the communities working to protect rainforests.

As for the commitments countries were expected to submit to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, participants at COP30 should have presented new pledges before the conference, but very few actually did.
