Dear Italy...Greetings from Sri Lanka!

Sri Lankan tea or Ceylon tea is a world famous brand and it's one of the main income source of sri lanka. Sri Lanka is ranked as fourth largest tea producing country and second largest tea exporting country. Tea plantation was started by James Taylor in 1867 when sri lanka was a colony of British emperor. Currently there are over 20000 hectares of tea plantation.
I'm going to tell you how this tea is processed, it as follows
First the tea leaves are plucked , normally the top two leaves from each branch is plucked and it should be done manually by a human. Normally a full working day of a person will collect around 20 -25 kg of tea leaves. After they are weighted then these leaves are transferred to the tea factory. The in the factory , as the first step these leaves are kept in a room with proper ventilations to remove the moisture. Normally leaves are distributed on a net or a tray to remove moisture. Then it start to dry the leaves, this step is called withering , Then the dried tea leaves are rolled using a machine. That step is called rolling and after that these leaves again kept in a firing chamber to dry properly. Then the tea leaves are graded and separated. Finally they are packed. For normal black tea , no chemicals are added for any purpose. But for the flavored tea brands , ex: lime flavored , cinnamon flavored etc. more things are added.
So this is how tea is process and it's not a complex procedure. Very natural and simple.
