Everything is normal on Mars—no problems.

You know, if you look at life through the lens of sci-fi movies, Mars is perhaps the only place where there are no problems.

Yes, there are no people there yet, and—naturally—there are no problems.

But if a human foot were to touch Martian soil, the very first problem to confront that person would be... how and with what to fertilize the potato sprouts.

Here on Earth, problems are everywhere you look—though they are closely linked to opportunities; after all, even if you fail to harvest a bumper crop of potatoes, you’ll at least have an abundance of fertilizer.

You can fertilize vegetables or flowers—take your pick—yet there are those who want us to fertilize something else entirely: not something material or useful, but our thoughts about how terrible everything is here and how we need to get the hell off this dying planet... It’s a bit strange, don’t you think?

No matter how a thread twists and turns, it always has a beginning and an end. Someone casts a line, hoping people will bite the worm like a hungry crucian carp—hoping they’ll stop thinking about improving the world around them and instead start building up a foreign home: something alien, wild, and unwanted, far away from the home they truly belong to.
