A study published by the British health authorities on Friday (12/31/2021) concluded that infection with a new variant of Covid-19. Omicron is less likely to require hospitalization. This was different when compared to patients who had Variant Delta infection.
Citing CNBC International, this data was obtained from an analysis of more than 528 thousand cases of Omicron and 573 thousand cases of Delta. The samples were taken from November 22 to December 26 in Queen Elizabeth's country.
"Recent data from the UK Health Safety Administration (NHS) found the risk of hospitalization for people infected with Omicron is about one-third of that posed by the Delta variant," the report said.

Not only that, the study said the Covid vaccine also helped reduce the risk of hospitalization from Omicron across all age groups. The human body's immunity from this variant is also getting stronger with the booster dose.
"One dose of the vaccine was 52% effective at preventing hospitalization of the omicron variant, while two doses was 72% effective. The booster dose significantly increased protection and was 88% effective at preventing hospitalization two weeks after receiving the injection," the study added.

Even so, the UK's Chief Medical Advisor (NHS) Susan Hopkins warned that it was too early to draw definitive conclusions about the severity of the disease caused by Omicron. He also gave a warning.

"Increasing transmission of omicron and increasing cases in the UK population over 60 means it is still very likely that there will be significant pressure on the NHS in the coming weeks," Hopkins said.

This news itself adds to the long list of comforting news about the Omicron variant. Previous studies in South Africa, Scotland, and Imperial College London have also confirmed that Omicron patients who have been vaccinated have a lower risk of ending up in hospital care.
