This One Felt Good

I've been hired to do portrait shoots by many people for many different reasons, and this one really stood out to me.

Let me explain, I was contacted by the girl in this shoot to do a portrait shoot. She had seen some of my previous work, and based on that wanted to do a photoshoot with me. She explained she had no previous experience but thats never really a problem as I often work with new models and can always give them some direction or posing, flattering angles etc.

The shoot itself all went well, and nothing struck me as out of the ordinary other than she was very timid and shy. She had picked a cute vintage style and I thought she suited the look really well. I remember she took a while to get into it but I got the impression she really enjoyed the shoot, and towards the end seemed a lot more confident and comfortable posing for the shots.

I thought nothing about it for a few days after the shoot as I'd normally leave a gap between shooting and editing so I can approach the edits with fresh eyes. I then prepared her shots and sent them off to her. Then I got a very nice email from her to say how much she loved them and thanking me for the shoot. She also gave me a bit more background as to why she had organised the shoot, which I thought was very sweet so wanted to share it here.

She explained to me that she had confidence issues her whole life and although she had no aspirations of pursuing a professional modelling career, she was hoping that a photoshoot would help her see herself in a different light and give her some confidence. When she seen the shots she told she had cried with happiness, and that made me feel great that I could help her see herself in a different light. I wouldn't want to overthink my roll in this, as I merely set up the lights and take the shots of the person on front of me in a ways I that I think they would like. I'm just happy that this girl was able to see herself in a positive way from these shots.
