A walk behind Narvskaya Zastava

The area behind Narvskaya Zastava is predominantly built up with two- and three-storey apartment buildings. Such development is common in the outskirts of the city, which were systematically built up in the first half of the 20th century. These buildings were built on the site of old wooden houses. No one built such low houses in the city centre at that time, but here, on the outskirts of the city, there was room not only for small cute little houses, but also for extensive plots of land. Later, a number of taller buildings grew up here as well, but the general principle of the layout has so far been preserved, and walking in this quiet area is almost as pleasant as a walk in the park.

Такая застройка часто встречается в окраинных районах города, которые планомерно застраивались в первой половине XX века. Эти здания строились на месте старых деревянных домов. В центре города в это время никто не строил такие невысокие дома, но здесь, на окраине города, находилось место не только для невысоких милых домиков, но и для обширных приусадебных участков. Позднее здесь выросло и некоторое количество более высоких зданий, но общий принцип планировки пока сохранился, и прогулки по этому тихому району почти также приятны, как прогулки в парке.
