All These Myriad Words...

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 months ago

In the not too distant future, I will have been part of the Steemit community for eight years. Prior to that, however, I had already been a blogger since sometime in 1998.

Twenty-six years.

No, I'm not trying to pat myself on the back... instead, I am contemplating this rather vast body of writing that has flowed from my mind, in the course of those years.

All in all, it likely amounts to something like 10,000-12,000 "article length" posts.

If you're a numbers geek like me, that amounts — very likely — to a minimum of eight million words.

For perspective, that amounts to the number of words in the Bible times ten or more.

What's ironic about that is that I have never felt capable of writing a book, so I have always stuck to just writing short articles and commentaries.

Of course, I don't actually have a subject to write an interesting book about, so that factors into the equation, as well!

The vast majority of those words have been written without the expectation of any sort of compensation. Not sure what exactly that says about me.. aside from the fact that I clearly stick to something, once I get absorbed enough in it.

Sometimes, I stop and ponder why I do this; write all these words.

Perhaps the number one reason is that it helps gets the words out of my brain. If it has been written down somewhere, I no longer have to keep it in "active memory" I can stop thinking about something, if I write it down.

Maybe that sounds weird to some people, but it works for me.

Judging by the amount of writing I do, I must be thinking too much!

I'm only halfway joking.

Writing shorter articles and blog posts like I usually do is also a significant part of how I manage living with ADHD. I'm pretty good at sitting down and putting together a "personal essay," and staying focused long enough to do so.

It's why I am also well suited to be an eBay seller. I can stay focused long enough to do the listing of one item. And then another. And so forth.

Beats the alternative of being medicated into a brainfog of oblivion.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a great first week of October!

How about you? What inspires you to write? Have you been a blogger for a long time? Leave a comment if you feel so inclined — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
