How Do We View Content on Steemit, and Online?
Without a doubt, there is an incredible — and constantly growing — volume of content coming through our screens, every day. And with the growth of AI generated content, that volume seems to be growing faster than ever.
What sort of lens should we use to view that content? How do we filter it, so as not to end up completely overwhelmed and frustrated? Conversely, how do we filter it in such a way that we doing just end up creating our own little echo chambers with very limited breadth of content? How do you look at Steemit; at the Internet, in general?
Steemit is an uncommonly international community. On a daily basis, I see content in dozens of languages, from dozens of cultures. At the same time, I also notice content creators and bloggers from different parts of the world posting their updates to ”country communities” that are not local to them.
I won’t get into the specifics and general issue of ”fishing for rewards,” but there’s no doubt that we end up with a language difference… and hence the title of this post.
One of the things I have done — pretty much since I first started on Steemit, 9 ½ years ago — is periodically ”follow” the recent posts feed, refreshing every few minutes. In order for that to have any meaning, I have my translation software on, so all posts show up for me in English (my preferred language, even if not my NATIVE language) because that’s the only way I can consider all content on what I’d call an even playing field.
It also means I’m exposed to content from all potential community members, not just the few who happen to publish in English.
What I mean by doing so — and by ”level playing field” — is that any subconscious cognitive preferences/biases (could be leaning towards my own language, or avoiding certain content) is largely taken out of the picture.
Of course, it’s also a good way to get to see things we perhaps wouldn’t otherwise have a look at… and sometimes that can be an excellent learning experience!
Naturally, we each have our own ways of going about things… so not claiming I have found ”the best way,” just the best way for me.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful weekend!

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.
I check out everything. I like to upvote the authors who are struggling to get rewards.
As for ai ... when properly used, ai-images can enhance a post. It does a better job than stock images. I will use AI for fact checking. I don't know what do about AI-generated text. Steemit is infected with spammers who use low quality text generation, I don't know what to do about people who generate an entire article with ai.
