The Joy of Long Days!

in WORLD OF XPILAR4 days ago

No, I'm not talking about long work days, this time... I'm talking about the long days that are part of life during the summer, when you live a long ways north.

While we do pay the "price" during the darkness of winter, one of the joys of summers here in the USA Pacific Northwest is that it is still daylight as I write these words at 9:00 in the evening.

As we move closer to Midsummer, we also move closer to a time when it stays light even up to about 10:00pm. And I really like that... it makes me feel more "alive," in a way.

Of course, not all people around here think it's all that great because on the "front end" of long days is the fact that the birds start making noise outside my window around 4:30 in the morning! I'm not bothered by it, but some people find it hard to sleep.

Perhaps I am particularly drawn to this time of the year because it brings back happy memories from growing up in Denmark. I don't have very many positive memories from being young, so these do matter to me.

My parents were big fan of the tropics and southern climates — even though we lived in Denmark — and whenever we went on holidays, it was invariably to one of these places. You'd think a kid would be excited about going to a tropical island, but I mostly hated it because it was hot and typically humid, and it felt like I couldn't breathe!

Cool/cold feels far more natural to me than hot. And — as a friend once pointed out — you can always put on more clothes if you're cold, but there's a definitely limit to how many clothes to can take off, if you're too hot!

So, I'm going to really enjoy our long days for the next six weeks or so, until they start shortening again!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great rest of your week!

How about YOU? Do you live somewhere where the days a MUCH longer during the summer? Do you like the length of daylight in the summer? Leave a comment if you feel so inclined — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!
