Ravnedalen is possibly Kristiansand's most beautiful park. It's located only a few kilometers from the city center and at the same time right next to a forest area with plenty of opportunities for short and long walks. The park is rather small. Although it is a landscaped park with trees and flowers, it is quiet and peaceful. You do get a feeling of being close to nature. Maybe that's because of having the forest as a neighbor. In most tourist brochures, this park is on the list of top 10 attractions. I will take you on a visuel tour to the park on a sunday in October. The park is open all year round. The Cafe Generalen is open every day throughout the summer. Now it has closed for the season.

Right after the entrance, you will see Cafe Generalen and right behind the small lake. Usually the lake has plenty of ducks. Sometimes I have seen swans here as well. The park's cafe - Cafe Generalen, has the city's best burger. At least that's what they say...,but eating a burger in the middle of these beautiful natural surroundings, might influence the taste. It is said that the cafe has recipes that are up to 100 years old. I don't know what kind of recipes that might be. I don't think the burger was invented a hundred years ago. The burger that sells the most is called the Generalen Special. It is topped with mushrooms, bacon and a super garlic sauce. I have tried it and it really is the best burger I have ever tastet!

At the other end of the lake this statue of General Oscar Wergeland is located (1815 - 95). It is a large statue made of bronze and erected in the park in 1917. The park was under construction during the period between 1874–1878 and Wergeland was the man who inititated this this.

At the ending point of the park you will find the outdoor stage. There are concerts here in the summer. Famous artists from near and far are invited to Ravnedalen Live. This is an event with summer concerts that has become very popular. Not only for us locals, but for tourists as well.

From here I walk some stairs to get up into the natural area called Baneheia. It covers a large area with lakes and bathing areas. It's nice to combine the Baneheia with Ravnedalen. I have often started in Baneheia but ended up in Ravnedalen. The trails you will find here, are marked in different colors. You just choose one of tthem. There are lots of choices for longer or short hikes.

This time I just walk to the lake Bånetjønn and the I walk back to the entrance of the park, but up on the ridge. At the end there is a viewpoint with great view of the city. Stairs are leading down to the cafe. The view of the park is also spectacalur from up here.
