Steemit Engagement Challenge WOX, S10W1: Creative Collage: World of Kids
Hello wox community,
I wish to enter the collage contest by @silviadiez.
World of Kids: School of Life
In the world of kids there is a large kitchen where they learn to use the best ingredients to grow.
Here, all recipes are important, from the most complex to the simplest.
In this kitchen they can imitate what their parents or friends do, but they can experiment and find new ways of doing things, change the order of ingredients or try new ones.
Sometimes they will be successful, sometimes not. They will learn, without making a drama, that not everything will go as planned or as we say in Italy “not all donuts come out with a hole”.
STEPS
Searching through magazines I found this image of children cooking and I got the idea of making them cook in a metaphorical way. So I chose this as the main image.
Then I found the donuts which are much bigger than the kids and I liked to pull them over. I cropped them to be able to overlap and better hook them to the main photo. Also I cut out some sprinkles from a donut to put into the dipper.
Then I tried these parts on a white sheet, still without gluing them.
With the pencil I outlined the contours to establish the position on the sheet and then I started making the background.
I tear some pieces of paper with delicate pastel colors with my hands.
After that I pasted the main image and continued adding some overlapping pieces.
Finally I glued the donuts.
I add other elements such as recipe books, some vertical bands, candies and then I create the school sign with markers to put on melted ice cream.
On the left corner I add a sugar garland cut out from a cake that I combined with the chef hat. I add other candies and a butterfly on the girl's hat and a mashmallow on the boy's hat.
This is the final result.
This is another picture with my name and date for verification.
That's all, thank you very much for reading the post, have nice day to all!
I invite @mini80 @lanegra2804 @aditi993 to the contest
Hello Emma,
lovely to see you on the challenge with one of your collages.
True to your style and taking advantage of the cooking magazines, you have made a nice collage with two little cooks as protagonists.
The background was very delicate with those soft tones, and the children fit perfectly around the sweets...they liked them more than the vegetables, it happens!
Maybe the collage would look better without some of the elements, "less is always more", the garland on the top left seems to me to overload it a bit.
Nice and sweet work...thanks Emma!
Thank you! In the end there was the left corner empty and I decided to put the garland, because when I was doing the background I didn't covered all the sheet... but I realized after, and I had finished the paper of the same color 😁, I need more planning with materials!
Hi @emmawalt.
The metaphorical sense of your collage is manifested at first sight. Congratulations!
The central location of the children preparing a recipe is well chosen. I like it.
The chromatic harmony of pastel colours that you gave to the scene seemed very assertive to me, and very appropriate for a children's theme.
I think that conceptually so far everything has been said, the rest becomes superfluous.
In my opinion, you should take a little more time to think about how to achieve better aesthetic unity in the composition. I don't say that this one of yours is bad, I am saying that you could get better results if you pay more attention to the composition to define what is important, what is necessary, and what is unnecessary, and think about whether certain elements are a contribution to the work or not.
Time to grow artistically.
Good job!!
@jorgevandeperre thank you very much for your advice 😊.
Actually the composition is a big problem for me, and also to decide when it's time to stop!
I do art works always in a rush, in an hour or two, and when I begin I want to see it finished, while sometimes it would be better let "rest" things and come back the day after. Not to mention that I should plan better before starting...
I know in theory, but I have to apply myself...

Wonderful collage you have here. Before reading the whole concept, I tried imagining how you got to the final step. Your steps made it easier to understand the image better. Goodluck in the contest.
Thank you very much!
