Learning new culture during service year .
They say nothing last forever, I remember those times and have the cause to glorify God because am I am a living testimony. Good evening dear fellow steemians.
In every situation give thanks to your creator. When there's life, there's hope. No matter what you face cast your burden upon him (Jesus) because he cares. During my service year it was a challenge on my life, although the purpose of national youth services corpse different from what we usually experience, of course we went there to serve our beloved country and to also learn others culture asides ours, but I tell you there are many things attached to it.
Let me start with culture/behavior difference
When its comes to culture and diversity, I do love to learn from others aside ours, but what I meant a bit surprised me. I came across a tribe called" Nupe people " popularly called 'Tapa' by most we (Yoruba) their ways of life is different from we Yoruba which is normal and natural because our tribe are difference. My surprised ? I believe my reader will be eager waiting to read that! At first sight/observation about their culture, two person was moving opposite each other, but suddenly I saw both guys parked their bikes beside the road and moved closer then bent down for each other and started greetings, I was surprised at how their greetings style was, and I love to know stuff, I asked senior colleague who has spent 1 month there what is going on, she now explained they are exchange greetings 😘
Their Occupational: Rice Plantation:
Mainly their occupation is farming, to be precise rice plantation, rice is a very common food consume by almost everyone, only if your health is challenging or something that is what could stop you eating rice🌾. This tribe plant and process (local rice) in bigger ways, I mean they have large portions of land that was used for rice cultivation. That made local rice cheap and other foodstuffs too were available at cheaper price, this make living for many of us lively, although we still have to adjust to some food which we never tasted before but believe me, the experience made us think wisely when we got back to our zones.
Greetings/Culture from Nupe:
They greet each other by bending down for one another. One of their food is tuwo-rice that's they prepare rice in form of swallow. I've never seen such before, but servings in those areas such were expected, we have to blend to system you know! Nupe people so believe in charms, I understand in some culture in our western African, such should always be expected, you need to cautious yourself to avoid being having clash with them, because they may take it seriously beyond your expectations. They so much believe in their charms to fight if you offended them in a big times, but since we noticed this, you need to behaved and stay in your line to afford whala (problems).
Greetings from Nupe people:
Some words of salutations; The word 'Estu' in Nupe means king, 'Ekubelaji' means good morning, 'Ekubekidi means good evening. But somethings bad about this people, majority of them value no education at all, their mentality towards education are very different entire, they believe you want to enslaved them by bringing education to them, they are very rigid in heart towards education, they so much believe in their ways; but with intervention of some NGOs and government efforts, their thinking about education begin to change; still more follow up must be done, when it's 12:00 noon the school closed for that day that is the interpretation.
And on every market days it's you and empty class, their children don't come to school especially every market days, they followed their parents to the farm, every market days for them is like holiday, either you like it not, market days for them, you won't see them, we concluded that is their style, hopefully as times goes by, their mentality towards education will complete Change for good and for the future of their children and country at large.
Thanks for your time to read through, stay safe.
