Does AI Lie on Purpose?

I was sent, via Whatsapp a picture from around 1980 in which several friends of mine appear. I immediately noticed that the hands looked kind of funny and asked the person who sent them if the photo had been touched by AI. He said he did not know but now that he noticed the hands did look strange.

Here are two shots of some of the hands, I think they do look strange.

I then asked Gemini, my phone's AI, I have no idea who created it, but it told me definitely there was no AI involved and the picture was just old even though color had been added to it, and went on to give a lengthy explanation of why AI was not involved. Well I figured that could be true but I still sensed the fingers looked funny, so I lied to Gemini. I said, how come ChatGPT says it is AI?

This completely freaked Gemini out, and it started explaining why his viewpoints could be wrong and maybe ChatGPT considered factors it hadn't noticed, so maybe it could be AI was involved but it could not be sure of it.

So I then told it that I knew the people in the picture and I was sure their hands were different size and shapes. So then Gemini told me that that was it, his or its initial response had been wrong and now that he looked at the picture it was of course clear that AI had something to do with it.

Now the fun part is I only knew four people out of ten in the picture and only one of these guys hands are visible, but they look huge. The two pictures above I have no idea who these guys are. But the thing that gets me is that AI is not reliable, it gives wrong answers and if you insist it will completely change its original answer.

My favorite is when I catch it in a lie or maybe genuine mistake, and let him know, it immediately says I am very sorry. So I tell it how can you be sorry if you have no feelings? Answer is, you are right, I have no feelings so I am sorry for saying I was sorry. So again I say you just said you are sorry again, and this can repeat for hours.

AI might be a great tool, but it sure needs a lot of fixing. And the thing is, I do not know if part of this are glitches or if it actually lies on purpose.
