The Weight of Yesterday
Some say the past is just a tale
A story told, now worn and pale
From what I’ve felt in time’s embrace
I hold with those who seek to erase
But if old scars begin to sting
I think I’ve seen what shadows bring
That memories, though faint and slight
Can weigh the heart in darkest night.
So whether past is near or far
In hidden wounds or fading scars
It’s in the mind where echoes stay
In whispered fears or thoughts at bay
For the past is more than time gone by
It clings to us, it will not die
A silent chain, a heavy yoke
In every step, its weight is cloaked.
