Sanssouci Palace is an outstanding architectural masterpiece and a symbol of the splendour and magnificence of the Prussian kingdom. The name "Sanssouci" comes from the French and means "without care". This reflects Frederick's intention to create a place where he could feel free from the constraints of the royal court. The palace was built between 1745 and 1747 and is an outstanding example of the Rococo style, characterised by its light elegance and playful ornamentation.
