My Brother Got Married...

Before you ask me why I went afk for a month let me tell you that a lot of things took place in recent times. My elder brother got married, the eldest went back to his home in UK. Do you know what that means? I'm kinda the eldest in my home now. A new set of responsibilities on my shoulders feels a bit different but I'm enjoying it, let's see how do I perform. Also it's Ramadan, the month where billions of Muslims fast for 30 days. Mannnn, I remember Ramadan a couple of years back. Honestly the best time of my life. I vividly remember how I used to submit 5-6 weeks crypto assignments in the Steemit Crypto Academy. I wish we could bring back those assignments. I learned so much from it. Got so much respect through that community.

Anyway, this post is dedicated to my elder brother who recently got married. He's the second to get married in my family, leaving me behind. It's my turn next and I hope that the time comes quickly, I'm ready to get married.... or maybe not, because I read somewhere that a person who's always blabbering about being ready for marriage is the one who's not.😂😂

My brother's wedding posts will be a series because weddings in Pakistan are so lengthy, it'd be impossible to complete it in a single post. You'll get an idea of a traditional wedding in Pakistan. Don't worry, I'll cover everything. Weddings in Pakistan usually consists of multiple functions (though I'm not a huge fan of it, I find it unnecessary but it is what it is) Mehndi, Shaadi(Wedding Ceremony) and a Valima. There are other customary Events as well but let's just keep it to these three events. In this post, I'll be giving you all an insight of the:

Before you wonder whats going on in this picture, brooo even I don't know. There's this cousin, she asked us to do this, probably saw this on Instagram or wtv 😂😭

Sooo basically what happened was that all our close relatives were invited to our place and our cousins had already decorated the living room. The sofa (read: stage) was set for the groom-to-be. The girl's side of the family are not invited in the Mehndi event. They have their separate event where the groom side is not invited.

During the Mehndi event, only the close relatives are invited and we do all sorts of things that a normal functioning family does. We play drums, sing, dance a bit, eat sweets and take a lot of pictures. We get nicely dressed for the big event and elders of the family say a lot of prayers for the groom.

The decorations started a day prior to this event, where we set up flowers and lights.

We even took help from our big chonky Arya. Yeah, thats what I named her. After Arya Stark of Winterfell. She's been with us for the last 6 years now. After the decorations had been done, the family gets seated in the living room while the groom and his brothers wait out for the entry. As you can see above in the picture, we held a Dupatta on top of the groom and entered the room while everyone smiled and I felt awkward. Won't you feel awkward doing something like this? 😭😂

Anyway, the groom sits on the sofa in the center and the parents offer him some sweets. Then comes the turn of the brothers, that's me.

After feeding the groom with sweets, we apply Uptan on the groom's hand. I'm not sure what Uptan is or why we do that but my cousin told me that it increases the beauty of the groom. I doubt that. I think we need a lot more that uptan to beautify my brother.

That's us five brothers. Evil eyes off. After everyone has placed uptan and has given sweets to the groom, aunts and uncles take our places and gift different things to the groom. This event hardly takes an hour but it's core memory. Things that you remember for life.
