RE: Weekend Garden work: trimming hedges
Oh wow! You guys were not messing around haha!! So, what kind of plant is that?! The other side of the hedge looks amazing!!!!!!! I wish I could get my two plumbago's to shape properly into a hedge... well, let me rephrase that - I simply have not made the necessary effort to get them to do so lol... and also, other than "cutting away" in the areas you DON'T want it to grow in order to "train" the direction... I actually don't know much about creating hedges, so it is probably something I need to read a little more about.
We have two HUGE plumbago plants which were obviously planted by the previous owners on the perimeter wall for that exact reason - so now I just need to finish what they started.
On a completely separate note... but a funny little story... lol - a couple of years ago, we went away on holiday and stayed at a place that was raised on stilts but the raised section of the house was covered and surrounded by a plumbago hedge. Our fur child, with all of his excitement when arriving... running here and there, obviously did not realise that it was not solid and proceeded to walk on it hahahahaha!!!!
We were inside the house at the time so did not see it happen, but a little while later, noticed that the dog was gone... we went outside, calling and calling everywhere and eventually, I heard this noise in the bush... haha!!! Out he came, from deep in the middle of this huge hedge, landed on the ground and was covered in all the sticky little flowers HEHEHEHE!!! It was so funny, Jude and I almost wet ourselves :D
Thankfully, he was not hurt in the process of the fall - which is the only reason we found it all so funny obviously :D
Anyhooooo,
so yes... plumbago! Beautiful hedge plant :)
Heres a google snap.
Although... the one he fell into was much bigger... about 2.5 times the height. poor little baby... hehe!

Thank you Jaynie, the hedge is grown very quickly it took about 6 years or so and it is Ceanothus 'Puget Blue' Californian Lilac

They can be as a tree but the other one as a bush and that one we have chosen. It is great, evergreen and in summer very blue. I think we let it without trim for the first couple of years because it was so nice that the leaves in the depth all fallen off and the branches were bare and dry. That is why we decided to do that and see if we can refresh this way.
The story with your dog is great, I am sure that he was looking so cute in blue flowers. I wonder if he also had fun :)
Ooooh It is BEAUTIFUL!!!! What gorgeous blooms!
NICE!!!! I wonder if we get that here... and if it would handle the brutality of our summer heat. I am going to look.
Too cute! and too funny. lol - though as for him having fun... I doubt that, he is literally petrified of everything... his nickname is "courage".... for obvious reasons :D
