Painting with opaque colours.

Hi friends!

Opaque colours are those that completely cover the support (paper, canvas, cardboard, etc.) or the previously applied layers of paint. Opaque colours are found in tempera, gouache, chalk or pastel, coloured pencils and also in acrylic and oil paint, etc.

Some colours are very opaque, others we can make more opaque by adding white (especially titanium white).

To paint with opaque colours, it is very useful to follow some practical rules that I will explain to you with the following images where I try to show the main steps of the painting process to achieve a realistic figurative style.
This process is similar to every application of opaque colours with different media, including digital ones.

Start by drawing your subject or model.
Here I will paint some grapes or similar fruits.

Define the main colour or the base colour of your subject.
Proyecto (20231108113207).00_01_18_6.Still002.jpg

Observe your model to apply the other colours over the base colour.
Proyecto (20231108113207).00_01_37_1.Still003.jpg

Blend the colours...

By applying pure white over we can get the lighter or brilliant points.

To make shadows on the model we use a translucent dark color applied very subtly.
Notice the shadow in the centre-right. Look, the paint doesn't cover the lower colours.
Proyecto (20231108113207).00_05_17_0.Still007.jpg

Here the lines of our drawing are already erased or covered and the shadows below are painted on the ground.

Notice in these close-ups how the colours mix.
Observe in these close-ups how the colors mix, and the small spots to get a more realistic effect.
Observe also the dark areas obtained by applying fine transparent layers of dark colour.

Proyecto (20231108113207).00_07_13_6.Still010.jpg

The exercise is finished.
Proyecto (20231108113207).00_07_20_4.Still008.jpg

To make the painting a little more pleasing to the eye, we could add a little colour to the background.
Think of a complementary colour.
In this case, the colour of the fruits is in the red range, so the background must be in the green range.

Below is an example of the use of complementary colours (red-green) used subtly in this oil painting.

Hi dear @crafter! thank you very much for your kind words, I'll try to do it as soon as I can.

Hello @jorgevandeperre
You already look inactive, are you healthy there?
I hope you are fine with your family and always healthy there.

Thank you very much for your concern dear @sultan-aceh. The truth is that I am not going through my best health moments, which has made it impossible for me to be active on Seemit. I have neurological problems, vision problems, and extreme fatigue as a result of out-of-control diabetes. Fortunately, I am already undergoing medical treatment so I hope to feel somewhat better or at least not to worsen my condition since, as they have explained to me, at least the visual deterioration is irreversible.
Thank you very much again!

Hello @jorgevandeperre

nice to hear from you.
and sorry...so sorry about your eyesight there, hopefully it gets better quickly, even with the help of glasses.

I have also experienced this, when my eyes are very tired, and my vision becomes blurry and unclear, but after getting enough rest and avoiding cigarette smoke and wind entering my eyes, I have to wear glasses now. but when I opened my glasses in a room without smoke and wind, my vision started to become clear again. :)) :))

Always praying for you, hopefully you can smile again there with us on Steemit and hopefully you will always be healthy there with your family, OK

regards
@sultan-aceh
