Hi friends!

At the confluence of Via d'Aracoeli and Via del Teatro di Marcello, you'll find this wide paved walkway lined with statues that leads to the famous Campidoglio square on the Capitoline Hill, which is one of the seven hills of Rome and has been an important religious and cultural centre since ancient times.

Capitoline Hill is home to several important historical and cultural sites, including the Capitoline Museums and the Piazza del Campidoglio.

Crossing the square you arrive at the "Lupa Capitolina", the outdoor replica of the famous statue of the she-wolf and symbol of Rome, at top of a column.
The original sculpture of Romulus and Remus, which was created by the Italian sculptor Francesco Queirolo, is located in the Palazzo dei Conservatori.
The replica is located in this square, the oldest and most important place in Rome, the place where the city was founded.

The twin brothers who, according to legend, founded Rome are shown being fed by a she-wolf, as a symbol of the birth of the city.

The sculpture of Romulus and Remus is very famous because of the history, as a child I read many of the ancient Roman and Greek mythology. Maybe because for every of the character there was a sculpture and of course a lot of drawings in such books. To tell the truth first I studied the drawings and then read books.

The paved walkway with two statues on both sides is impressive, seeing how big the people and the size of statue just makes to think how small we are and how great the ancient artists were to create such statues in such dimension. Beautiful photos :)

Hi Stef,
I also remember how fascinated I was with Greek and Roman mythology books, first because of the drawings and paintings they contained, then because they were entertaining and interesting to read.
I believe that the great artists of that time would not have existed if it were not for the patronage exercised by rich and influential people, eager to show their power and influence.
I think if today's artists had comparable support there would be great work too.

As I remember 45 years ago

Nice walk. This city breathes history. It is already impossible to separate mythology from reality and it is unlikely that anyone will succeed.
And again copies ... :)

Yes, again copies... it's a bit disappointing. Sometimes I think that preserving valuable works of art is more of an excuse than a truth.
The human being is an imitator by nature. With art, people have always tried to imitate reality. Now the human being imitates the imitations that the old artists imitated and with virtual reality, we are imitating our world with all the imitations that it contains. Did you hear about Digital twins?

..I have a feeling that there are no originals even in museums, although officially they should be stored there and exhibited for display. Private collections and closed organizations (such as the Vatican)... I think there are a lot more of them there.
You can be sure of the original if you made it yourself and it has not been in the wrong hands.

Digital doubles can be useful for production purposes, they allow you to predict the life cycle of objects.

In art, this can lead to mass forgeries. If the original is lost, it is to some extent useful, 3D printers can make an exact copy, but... this is a convenient way for fraud.

=======================

Now the human being imitates the imitations that the old artists imitated and with virtual reality, we are imitating our world with all the imitations that it contains.

I agree...
