October 29, 2022 - Long live the Republic🇹🇷💫

Hello everyone;

Today I will talk about October 29th, a very important day for the Republic of Turkey. On October 29th, 1923, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey changed the country's form of government to a Republic. So Turkey has been governed by the republic for 99 years. For this reason, October 29 is a public holiday and is celebrated enthusiastically all over the country. This year, we went to Kaş, one of the most beautiful districts of Antalya, for the October 29 celebrations. And I want to share with you the rest of this beautiful day.

The distance between Antalya and Kas was 180 km, which meant a journey of about 3 hours. We joined a day tour to go to Kaş, so we also visited the ancient cities along the way. But that is a topic for another article. For this reason, our journey took longer than 3 hours. We arrived in Kaş around 5 p.m. As soon as we arrived in the city, it was possible to feel the enthusiasm of October 29th. The streets were decorated with flags and many people were already celebrating with flags in their hands.

The October 29 celebrations in Kaş are quite famous. For this reason, people from neighboring provinces also participate in these celebrations. Therefore, when we arrived in Kaş, we noticed that it was quite crowded compared to a normal day. First of all, we went to Kaş Square, which was decorated with flags and a stage was set up for the concert that would take place in the evening.

The celebrations were to start at 8 p.m. so we had dinner first and after dinner we walked around the streets of Kaş. You could feel the enthusiasm of the people.

When it started to get dark, we made our way to join the lantern procession. Since Kaş is a very small place, we easily reached our destination. We walked to Kaş square accompanied by marches and songs in the lantern procession.

Of course, we also took photos to immortalize this beautiful day. Although we couldn't take too many photos because it was quite crowded, we still took a small souvenir photo.

Immediately after the lantern procession, the concert started. The concert was by Zakkum, one of Turkey's most famous bands. I was extra happy because Zakkum is one of my favorite bands too.

After the concert, the celebrations continued with fireworks. Our return time to Antalya was 1 am. For this reason, we sat in a cafe and had a coffee to relieve the tiredness of the day. Although the crowd started to calm down, the streets were still chirping. This was the end of another unforgettable day for me.

As I conclude this article, I would like to express my gratitude to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, who made this day possible. My love and respect for him is endless. I feel very lucky to have a leader like him and I try to live in line with his principles.
