The photo was taken in Castlefield area of Manchester, UK, generally considered to have been the world's first industrial city. Hence the status of Britain's first Urban Heritage Park, which was granted to Castlefield in 1982.

The big bridge structure at the forefront is the tubular steel 1894 Great Northern Viaduct, built for the Great Northern Railway Company. The cast iron arch bridge behind it is part of the 1849 viaduct of the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway. Viaducts cross the Bridgewater Canal (seen in the photo from the Castlefield Bowl - an outdoor events pavilion), which was Britain's first as well as world's first industrial canal, opened for business back in 1761.

The red building on the right is Giant's Basin office building, named after the weir it is situated next to. The weir is of national historical importance and you can see and read about it here.

See more photos from my day in Castlefield here. A brief introduction to area, and links to other sources of information are also provided.

The photo was taken using a mobile phone's camera. F 2.4, ISO 125. Photo by @peerynt

Hope you're having a great day.

It is, isn't it @stef1? They are turning it into urban "sky park" right now; you can read about that more here.

Yes, the boats. One can even rent them as if it was a flat. This is amazing. When I first heard about people living in boats like that, I could barely believe it. I mean, isn't it fantastic when you can move your house over the water whenever and however you like in order to change the view?

When you go to airport, it's one thing. It's a very different Manchester when you actually visit the city :)
