Say hello to the wild deer here in London, Richmond, zone 4. Less than £5 return is the cost of travel on one of the overground trains if you decide to attempt an outing here.

Now more than ever they need to be left alone as it's their mating season. Keep at least at 50 metres away from the wild deer but take your time admiring them from a safe distance. Watch and learn how they behave and treat one another. This time of the year dog walkers are advised not to go further in the park and stay closer to the gates as the wild deer may feel threatened by a pet and end up attacking it.

To make this a more enjoyable experience for yourself don't forget to take a hot drink with you in a thermos. Make sure you've got the right shoes on as it's soggy where the deer feel cosy.

Don't overpack as you'll end up following the herd of deer. Yes, they don't stay still for a long while. For one reason or another, even when you keep your distance they will start walking towards you at one point. The male first, followed by his entourage. Then you just have to keep backing away and let them head to wherever they fancy.

Don't forget your pair of binoculars as whilst admiring the deer, birds are also likely to be seen. Ravens, woodpeckers and wrens came and said hello to me. I said hello back from the other side of the camera.

Beautiful shots! They really are magnificent creatures. Nice that you have them so close to the city... reminds me a bit of the "Deer Park" on the northern outskirts of Copenhagen... a 3-zone metro ride from the city centre and you're out in the woods.

P.S.: I am nominating your post as a #wox-bestpick in today's Nominate and get Rewarded: 15% Trail Upvote — Nomination Day 22 contest, because this is really beautiful!

I am thrilled that you like the deer photos I took here in London. We are lucky to have them as they do make a nice and easy escape from the usually very busy city life. I am also pleased that my post brought up a nice memory for you of the 'Deer Park' in Copenhagen. I looked it up online and I saw some fantastic and even snowy photos with lots of deer on. So it is now on my list with things to do when in Denmark next.

Thank you ever so much for nominating my post for today's #wox-bestpick initiative. To be honest this is the first time I received such a nomination and I am pleased that an experienced member like you @denmarkguy actually nominated me! It means the world to me! It is a great initiative which is just another reason for me to make sure I post my content exclusively here, in WOX.

Awesome images, you are lucky to have this communication with the deer. I would love it. I have such contact with different sorts of monkeys when you follow them, watch them, make them be used to you. But deer must be very different experience but full of the same magic.

P.S. No unnecessary words in the article, the writing style is the most enjoyable for reading. I hope curators will notice this.

Thank you ever so much @datych for the positive feedback and resteeming my post. It means a lot to me especially from a great contributor like yourself! I wrote this piece after a busy day out and about. But that's how some of us show their best, daily, regardless the circumstances, assuring the magic happens 👏 When the time is right for your trip to England, I will gladly teach you my ways. We will admire lots of wildlife if you wish in and miles out of London. We will meet fantastic people too and get inspired from one another. Food is top quality at my place, never boring and too traditional, no doubt about that! I have seen some of your crazy monkey photos which I still remember. They are quite small animals compared to deer and much more mischievous so also a challenge to photo on their own. I took some fun monkey images in Bali, Indonesia which I'm sure will find their way into one of my posts at least sooner or later.

Visiting the UK is out of my reach, alas. Although, as you know, I would love it. Your suggestions sounds fantastic, thank you :)

Would be great you come to Russia. But I won't describe the perspective since ...Russia is far from the condition to be a travel destination soon - 1000 died of covid daily, official stats. :(

😱 I’ve not realised that the numbers are so high over there. Stay safe my friend and keep avoiding crowded places. I was actually told today that my grandfather was in contact with somebody who’s now diagnosed with COVID-19. So happy Sunday, one more thing to worry about. Anyway, hopefully he won’t get it and it will not make his condition worse. I am preparing now a photo selection which will be shown to him tomorrow and will hopefully cheer him up.

One day, the sooner the better, when this pandemic is all in the past, I would definitely come over and spend some time in Saint Petersburg. Probably in summer, as I love nature, the seaside, foraging and we’ll just be able to do more outdoors.

47.000+ people are having covid (source) in St.P. -- almost 1% of population.

Hope you grandpa will be fine.

Summer is a great time. Let's forage on something in forests around the city... one day... :)

😱 A negative PCR test will be required just for a museum or theatre visit. Many haven’t been vaccinated and more restrictions are being introduced. A work colleague of mine moved back to her parents for few weeks as her partner got COVID-19. It all starts to look very much like last year’s nightmare with all the restrictions, lockdowns, studying and working remotely. My grandfather is holding on, the photos with some detailed captions I put together for him were well received. Every day at work we get an equal amount of cancellations and new bookings. One day we’ll definitely explore together what Saint Petersburg and it’s surroundings have to offer 🌏

Great shots!
Oh, the deer were watching you dear @petface and were not afraid of your presence. 😊

I especially liked the "Standing Out From The Crowd" photo👏

Thank you ever so much @leylar I am pleased with such a positive feedback from a great photographer like yourself! The deer were establishing eye contact with me acknowledging my presence every now and then. I was standing still out there in the bumpy terrain looking at them through the camera so they felt comfortable and kept doing their own things. Your favourite standing out from the crowd roared and another deer roared back. They might have well spoken about me.

Hola amiga @petface, que buenas tomas, hermosos los siervos!!! Y que buenas instrucciones jajaja, las tendré en cuenta si me llego a topar con alguno, debe ser impresionante verlos.
Saludos 😊

Hi @nithku and thank you for stopping by! I’m really pleased that you like the gorgeous deer I photoed. I really hope that you will come across them 🦌 sooner or later and get the chance to test out some of my tips. Cheers and we stay in touch.

jajaja yo también amiga @petface, tendré que ir a explorar El Ávila.
Saludos 😊

Please do as soon as you can! Many members here in WOX would be pleased to look at the stunning mountain views. If you also manage to photo some of the exotic parrots you guys have over there that would be truly amazing!

Si amiga @petface, mi mamá dice que cuando era pequeña veía de los ciervos pequeños, pero ahora con la creciente población fue menguando su territorio y deben estar bien adentro de las montañas. Pero en algún momento será posible realizar un viaje que lo permita.

Pity you no longer have that many deer over there. Say hello to your mother from me. She was lucky to have seen a deer ages ago then. Hopefully one day you will manage to get to the mountains and then you will also be able to post here about your family outing.

#wox-bestpick of the day goes to @petface

Thank you ever so much @worldofxpilar and I can't thank @denmarkguy enough for noticing my post. This is another fantastic initiative here in WOX which is certainly the community I feel I do belong to.

Now is the time for young roe deers to try their luck, but usually they come short, defeated by the main deer in the herd.

This is very true indeed @zorank This time of the year is ideal for figuring out who is who in the herd. They also fight with one another hoping to attract females. I saw the leader of the herd resting a bit further apart from the rest of the deer, assuring their safety by being on the watch for predators. He also seemed quite confident that in the end of the day they will all keep following him regardless of a fight or two.
