Travelling South Africa: A trip to Kagga Kamma

Earlier this year I travelled a few thousand miles to South Africa for 3 months to be with my partner. This is something I do regularly and will absolutely be incorporated into future posts where I'll share my adventures! During this trip we took a holiday to a place called "Kagga Kamma" which was roughly a 4 hour drive from where we always stay in Hermanus. Kagga Kamma is a world heritage nature reserve in the Cederberg Mountains nestled against natural rock formations. Its elevated at 3,250ft above sea level and was once completely under water!

A truly exotic location which connects you with the soulful heritage and landscape once inhabited by the Khoi and San of the past. Kagga Kamma is unique in that it comprises an untouched Karoo-like wilderness: decorated in bursts of wild flowers, scattered and fascinating rock formations (as seen in my photo above) and an intriguing ecosystem of small creatures scarcely seen or found anywhere else.

Hello Steemit, I am back (again) Lol. It's been about 4 years I think since I was here last! I guess life happens and time just moves too quickly. However, I feel that I'm in a place where I want to be more present here and get back to writing which can be a form of release and enjoyment for me.

Myself and my partner took to the beautiful roads of South Africa and headed for another one of our fabulous trips. It was a lovely drive, apart from perhaps the last hour where the roads were very rocky, I think we'll hire a more suitable car next time!

As we got closer, it was obvious that this place was going to be special. The rock formations were insane and blew our minds at how far above sea we were and that once upon a time the whole place was under water! This was definitely evident by the rock formations and the terrain we encountered on our hikes through the nature reserve.

In this photo I am pictured hiking in the nature reserve keeping my eyes peeled for baboons, leopards and some original rock art once painted by the Khoi and San people between 6-30,000 years ago!

During our week stay at this fabulous resort, we went on one of the trips within the nature reserve that they offer. This one was called The Rock Art Tour, being art appreciators and our interest in history, we decided to go along. It was a real treat. There are caves all over the nature reserve where the Khoi and the San people once lived and took shelter, and on the cave walls were original paintings showcasing what is thought to of been the trackings of the kills they made in order to eat, family portraits, and other commemorations of sacrifice. It was an interesting trip, learning about there way of life, how they survived and how they used what mother nature provided in order to build homes, clothe themselves, hunt, and much more.

It's truly a magnificent place with lots to offer, from hiking trails, rock art tours, game drives, star gazing tour, sunrise tour, swimming, quad biking, or to simply do nothing and enjoy nature in all its glory, there's something for everyone! Apart from WiFi, apparently that's a deal breaker for many people haha! Just head to the bar area, they've got you covered, and what a perfect excuse! ;)

I would like to share more of this trip with you, I have lots more to show/tell you, for some reason I'm unable to upload more photos, I'll have to save them for another post instead. I've still got a lot to learn but I'm excited to be here!
