Today I am going to tell you about one of the most exuberant flowers that Mother Nature has given us. It is the Orchid, the National Flower of Venezuela and that together with the Araguaney (National Tree) and the Turpial (National Bird) represent the ornamental symbols and natural beauty of Venezuela.

Las orquídeas (nombre científico Orchidaceae) son una familia de plantas monocotiledóneas que se distinguen por la complejidad de sus flores y por sus interacciones ecológicas con los agentes polinizadores y con los hongos con los que forman micorrizas.

Orchids (scientific name Orchidaceae) are a family of monocotyledonous plants that are distinguished by the complexity of their flowers and by their ecological interactions with pollinating agents and with the fungi with which they form mycorrhizae.

Se trata de una de las familias de plantas más amplias en tanto que comprende aproximadamente 25 000 especies o incluso es posible que hasta 30 000. Además, a esta diversidad natural se le suman la existencia de 60 000 híbridos y variedades producidas por los floricultores.

It is one of the largest plant families, comprising approximately 25,000 species, or possibly as many as 30,000. Furthermore, this natural diversity is compounded by the existence of 60,000 hybrids and varieties produced by flower growers.

These plants are distributed throughout the planet, with the exception of the polar regions and deserts where they do not flourish.

Curious thing that caught my attention a lot about these flowers; is that due to the great variety of orchids of different colors, they have their meaning and it is the following:

Orquídea morada: símbolo de justicia, prudencia y sabiduría.

Purple orchid: symbol of justice, prudence and wisdom

Orquídea azul: representa la paz y la armonía.

Blue orchid: represents peace and harmony

Orquídea rosa: declaraciones de amor (tanto parejas como familiares).

Pink orchid - declarations of love (both couples and relatives).

Orquídea verde: representa la esperanza.

Green orchid: represents hope

Orquídea blanca: símbolo de sofisticación y de pureza.

White orchid: symbol of sophistication and purity.

Orquídea roja: representan la mezcla de amor y de pasión existente entre dos personas.

Red orchid: they represent the mixture of love and passion between two people.

Orquídea amarilla: representa el erotismo y lo contrario al amor puro.

Yellow orchid: represents eroticism and the opposite of pure love.
