My latest drawing and update to my insect drawing guide.
To draw light fur, I use an eraser to penetrate the dark values.
In addition, I draw the negative space around the light fur.
Meaning, I am penetrating the light value with dark values (using a dark graphite pencil).
The result looks like the light fur is penetrating the dark fur, as if it is above it.
In any case, for fur or hair, always use tapering.
Tapering is a way to draw strokes that start from dark to light and from thick to thin.
If you do not use tapering, the strokes may look like lines.
Then, create areas of values, not single hairs.
Many insects have hair.
I mostly work in layers, I cannot reach realistic results in the first go, unless it is a sketch.
Moths have fur, when you see them in close-up view.
They can be agricultural pests, particularly their caterpillars.

Spiders are not insects, but they pray on insects.
