My latest drawing, from an update to my guide on drawing with mechanical pencils
I mostly use mechanical pencils for quick sketches.
A mechanical pencil is quite durable, and you can use it to draw anywhere.
For this guide I used the Faber-Castell Grip 1347 mechanical pencil.
It's nib size is 0.7.
The value grade I use is B.
Nib size 0.7 is quite thick, and therefore less suitable for fine art rendering, or small details.
Its advantage is that it does not need to be sharpen, and the it is erasable (meaning, you can fix mistakes).
It has a small eraser, which is great for drawing details.
In the next example, I used the eraser to draw the lion's whiskers.
I also like it for technical drawing, like perspective drawing.
And, for drawing from direct observation.
While mostly I use it for quick sketches:
It can produce high level drawings.

Beautiful, especially nice to see the sketch and then the final result when your created the texture, fur and hair are the most difficult things for me to draw. But when it is well done, then it looks really great!
I agree, fur is tricky, especially because each fur is different (same with hair).
I go with the direction of the hair, working in layers, and mostly I pay attention to the structure and values.
The texture comes with mileage.
In addition, fur and hair are soft, so they do have softness to their edges.
You can use a synthetic brush (small one) to gently soften the fur or hair, but do not overdo it, so it won't look too smudgy.
In this article, I mostly showed sketches, which are much faster than drawings.
Meaning, you can draw fur and hair if you mostly focus on values, and transitions in values, with a bit of suggestion to the texture.
Sometimes, the texture is like small abstract triangles, if that makes sense.
