Raw Reverberations for Stuckism
Fat Pan and Two Crepusculars 2024. Acrylic on loose canvas, 20 x 23"
This winter I was at a clip of about two paintings a day. I’ve been painting on loose canvas for a duo exhibition with a sculptor in June. Here are five of the 100 I proposed to the gallery. They will be tacked on walls instead of framed. It’s Stuckism’s 25th anniversary and I want to honor the movement with these “crude and desperate” paintings. Not that Stuckism is crude, or desperate. I just adore its dedication to amateur-ism. I love painting. And I want to keep as innocent as possible in a nightmare political world. Keeping frames out of the picture frees up space and finance, and I believe can offer the public more for their visual money. Me and the other guy have to come up with a title for the show. He’s a glass sculptor with cosmic concepts about universe, earth, sun and moon. A difficult task blending “crude and desperate” with cosmic wow!
I wrote to him and the director of the gallery. Maybe ChatGPT could help:
Hi Terry,
My name is Ron, and I am the person exhibiting with you in June.
I am a Stuckist painter of some renown in north northwest Oswego County. Anita the Director has asked that we come up with a name for our exhibition. I just had a look at some images of your work on Google. I like what I see very much. The team at KAC did well in pairing us up. This is an important year in my little painting world. It’s the 25th anniversary of Stuckism. I proposed to the gallery to hang 100 paintings on loose canvas. No frames. Just decorative tacks. Most are in the range of 20 - 24". A few 16 - 20". Here are links to my website and Instagram to get some idea. The recent Instagram posts are mostly the style I will exhibit. In honor of Stuckism, I am being purposeful (not lazy) with the absence of frames. no stretcher bars. All loose canvas. Plus, it keeps the prices down. Maybe I’ll actually sell a few:)
If it was a solo show I would be titling it “Crude and Desperate” for private reasons. I realize this won’t fit with our work together. But it’s hard, right? To make a title for a duo show? I went to ChatGPT to help us:
Expressive Visions: Terry Slade and Ron Throop
Raw Reverberations
Raw Expression and Cosmic Meditation
Expression and Meditation
Intrinsic Urgency
What do you think? I could go with any of these, and am open to whatever you have in mind.
Thanks Terry! Hello Anita!
Ron
I hope he picks Raw Reverberations.
