Doing Rightly, Living Rightly
In this present day world, a lot of unwholesome practices are becoming the order of the day. A lot of people just do the things they like in the way they want. Some others also cut corners, easily look for excuses for what is not working, and trade blames, all to absolve themselves of any form of accountability. However, they do not understand that at the end, the effects of their actions will speak loud. Choosing to do the right thing and living right may seem like a slow process, but at the end, it will become a sure path to destiny. Doing the right thing forms the foundation for long-term success, peace of mind, and a life of purpose.

Doing the right things and living rightly is not what you do once in a while, rather it should be what your lifestyle is. You cannot start off on the right foot and derail to the wrong path. Even when being pressured to do the wrong thing, remember that it will come back to haunt you later, so do not fall for it. Always maintain your rightness at all times and in every situation. I remember a story I once read about a young man who was raised in a home that instilled into him the qualities of rightness, integrity, and accountability. This showed in his life, and he lived by those qualities all through his years in the university. This made everyone to trust him. In fact, he did not campaign to be the course rep, they unanimously gave it to him because of what they saw in him.
Almost all his life, he was getting favours because of how rightly he lived and did things, then something happened when he went to do his 1 year Youth Service. The place he was posted to do his PPA was in a construction company that builds houses and sells. When he got there, he found out about many irregularities and attempted to make things right. A lot of the contract staff will inflate figures, use low quality materials to build, just to enrich their own pocket. They kept telling him to join them in their acts and be getting loads of cash, but he kept refusing. He chose to live rightly.
When it got to the last month of his stay at the company, the director gave him one last job to do as a farewell. While he was in his room, he thought about what his colleagues have been telling him. He thought to himself that it was his last job and he has not saved any money, so he decided to do what they have been telling him. He did not only inflate prices, but he used ridiculously substandard materials to execute the job. Then while he was done and told the director, what he did shocked him. The director of the company looked at him and told him that they thought about what to give to him as his parting gift and decided to gift him the last house he built for them. At that point, he knew he messed up with the house. What should have been a thing of joy for him became sorrowful, because he used fake materials for the house and it will not last. He learnt the hard way that doing rightly should be a lifelong adventure, not what you do and stop.

Doing rightly and living rightly have a way of building trust. You are more likely to trust someone you know lives right. Trust is one of the things that make you outstanding in life. People may even forget your achievements, but it will be difficult to forget your character. When people remark you for being honest, reliable, trustworthy, truthful, and principled, they will open unimaginable doors for you. Your skills can get you into certain positions, but in order to be sustained there, you will need a good character of trustworthiness.
One very important benefit of doing rightly and living rightly is peace of mind. There is a peace that comes to your mind when you know that you have done the right thing. Living with silent guilt has its torture. But when you live right, you will have a pure conscience and you will not have to live with guilt. The people who do the right thing achieve a form of freedom on the inside which is priceless. Always remember that you have a choice of what to do - whether to live right or not, but you do not have a choice of its effects and consequences. So make the wise choice.
