WOX TRAVEL CONTEST - Our Vienna Trip

Hello dear friends. Recently, our friends who live in Slovenia came to visit Austria with their families and we accompanied them in Vienna for a few days. This allowed me to rediscover the city's beauty. We visited St. Stephen's Cathedral, its famous tower, the zoo, Hundertwasser and other important spots. In this post, I'd like to share the memories from our Vienna trip with you.

First, I want to talk about the apartment where our friends stayed. Finding an accommodation with a good price and location in Vienna isn't easy. We rented this room before New Year's. Having a spacious and affordable parking lot nearby and a metro station within a minute's walk from the apartment was a big plus. You can get anywhere in Vienna by metro. The three-room apartment had a kitchen right next to the corridor with everything you need. There was a bedroom for the children. Everything was pretty simple, but it was enough. The hosts seemed to like everything shiny and flashy. This room cost 125 euros per night and we found it on Airbnb.

In the Vienna metro, tickets are purchased through this type of machine. You can select the English language option. We first bought tickets for the children, who go at a discounted rate. A ticket for a child costs 1.20 euros and for an adult, it's 2.40 euros. Children under six can ride for free. You insert the money and receive your tickets.

First, we watched a Cirque du Soleil show. It was an entertaining event for both children and adults.

After the show, we visited St. Stephen's Cathedral. Located right in the center of Vienna, St. Stephen's Cathedral is quite magnificent. Later, we went up the cathedral's tower to get a view of the city from above. There are two entrances here: the South and the North. You can take an elevator from the South entrance, but we chose the North entrance and went up the stairs. It's 343 steps and the passage is quite narrow, making it hard to go up and down. School students manage to climb it easily during school trips. After climbing about 347 steps, the beautiful view of Vienna became visible.

This cathedral was built in the 12th century. It's very interesting and beautiful, but unfortunately, vandals have already covered the walls with graffiti. For example, there are writings like "Tom and Anna were here."

Climbing up the tower used to be free, but now it costs 5.50 euros for an adult. The passage is quite narrow and people are moving both up and down, so you must be careful. However, when you see the view overlooking the center of Vienna, you forget about the stairs.

After enjoying the spectacular view, we descended. We entered St. Stephen's Cathedral, where a service was taking place. We explored this incredibly beautiful cathedral, accompanied by organ music played on an old organ.

We passed by the beautiful and historic building that houses the Louis Vuitton store in the center. I use this brand's cosmetics, so seeing a large store in Vienna made me happy. At the entrance, they placed a skeleton dressed in a white apron. My friends said they could only find it in a small corner at Muller in Ljubljana.

Next, we arrived at one of Vienna's most famous apartments, Hundertwasserhaus. Look at the building's unique shape inside, there are unconventional apartments, uneven floors and asymmetric windows. This is a special building and there are no other structures like it in Vienna. It was an architectural experiment and it's unknown whether it was successful or not. Currently, it's filled with tourists from all over the world. Unfortunately, we can't enter the apartments because ordinary people live there.

We decided to visit the famous zoo in Vienna. The entry fee for an adult is 26 euros, while children over six years old cost 15 euros. We actually came here to see the pandas; my friends said that koalas are not found in the Slovenian zoo. They wanted to see animals that are not in their zoo, like hippos. There's a beautiful park with a scenic view next to the zoo.

The first part of our trip ended and we left Vienna with our friends to go to Slovenia. I'd love to talk more about this trip in my next posts. See you in the new posts and thanks for reading.

in July I will be in Vienna on holiday. Recommend me some interesting places or monuments to see that are a little out of the way of the tourist route

I'm sure you'll have an amazing trip. I definitely recommend visiting the Schönbrunn and Belvedere Palaces. Plus it would be fantastic to climb to the top of St. Stephen's Cathedral for a breathtaking view. If you have time, you should absolutely try a day trip to Hallstatt. It's like a fairytale town 😍

thanks for your advice I will come in July I just hope it isn't too hot

July is Vienna's busiest time with various events taking place. I'm sure you'll love it. The temperatures are usually between 25 and 30 degrees. But last year was a bit hotter. I think it was like that all over the world.
