🚥 Festive of Lights (Aglow) @ Paradise Park in Newhaven

in WORLD OF XPILAR4 months ago

It's been nearly 2 weeks since I'd originally planned to write this post. Initially delayed by the "exciting" news about Reading v. Port Vale being abandoned due to a pitch invasion and subsequently by my iCloud storage being full and the need desire to download some photos to allow for new photos to be downloaded.

Then, as you probably know (given that I've not stopped banging on about it), I've been consumed by some IT development, particularly on Steemit's front-end. If you missed it, please read this post where I've redesigned steemit.com and let me know your thoughts. This initial (untested and Desktop only) version already exists so if you want to see steemit.com brought into the 21st Century, let the world know and help to make it a reality!

Introduction, self-promotion, etc. now complete. Time to write the post I've been planning for 2 weeks.

On 13th January, we visited Paradise Park in Newhaven for their Festive Lights (codename AGLOW). Whilst Christmas festivities are very much complete for the majority of the world, this was probably the first opportunity we'd had to do something like this. Described as:

Prepare to be dazzled by our spectacular Winter light trail, where hundreds of thousands of lights weave a magical tapestry of luminescence, igniting the gardens with an awe-inspiring brilliance that’s simply unforgettable.

There was plenty to look forward to.

We started our journey on the train, which I failed to take a photo of (other than those which include the-2yo-gorilla) which toured the trail to give us an idea of what we were going to see. The boys also love a train 🚂

When that was done, we started exploring on foot - with plenty of candy canes and gingerbread men to set the tone.

It was probably at this point, that the-5yo-gorilla took whatever speed enhancing drugs that he'd stashed and we flew through the rest of the trail.

The cubes (which I thought were cool), the ducks, the abundance of rainbows and colour, over and around the lake with the swans and continuation of festivities...

There were also plenty of local sites featured, including Bodiam Castle...

and Ypres Tower...

both of which were very cool.

My favourite part though was probably the part of the trail which covered the 4 seasons...

Can you tell which season is which?

And then before we knew it, we were at the end. Me, hoping that it wasn't an expensive 25 minutes, knowing that my enjoyment of the trail will be primarily from the photos that I've taken.

25 minutes trying to keep up with the-5yo-gorilla.

The website states:

How Long Does it Take?
It is up to the individual how long the experience takes. We would suggest around 45 minutes on average.

This individual would have liked for it to have taken 45 minutes.

Fortunately, we had plans to stay out for dinner and we went to a pub that @petface has previously mentioned - Cuckmere Inn.

Unfortunately...

If you pop in the Cuckmere Inn again make sure you download the Vintage Inns App, you get free drinks and money off the bill 🤑 We got 2 complimentary ciders, 1 espresso martini and £20 off ⭐️

...is only available from Monday to Thursday so we weren't able to take advantage of that. Which is a damned shame... because a burger now costs nearly £20!!

It's been so long since I've eaten out, the previous time I ordered this, it would've cost about £12! And fuck knows why they thought putting a mini-gherkin as one of my sides was a good idea.

So there we go... hopefully you've enjoyed the Light Trail as much as I did. You've probably spent as long looking at it as I got to.

mmm Gherkins & cheese yum

It was a fairly decent burger... why anybody would put a whole mini-gherkin on the side is a mystery (I chopped it up) - why wouldn't they cut it up and put it in the burger?!

No idea what the sauce was... I guess it looks like cheese... I'm not sure that it was though!

Love a picture round! Top left: spring, top right: summer, bottom left: autumn and bottom right: winter.

Shame about not being able to grab a deal at the Cuckmere Inn. Seems like it wasn’t the best day in the kitchen. Maybe worth giving it another chance 🤔

Here’s something else you might take advantage of assuming you don’t have a family National Trust membership.

They went live with the free online passes at 8:30 this morning, long gone now but you can still grab a paper 📰 if you wish☝️

Thanks for that - we've got a National Trust membership already. We probably don't use it enough but it's nice when we're on a long journey and want a break to say "is there a National Trust nearby?"... there usually is 🙂

Your post has an atmosphere of celebration and good mood; there is a lot of interesting entertainment for children at the holiday. Evening and beautiful lighting, it looks fabulously beautiful and impressive. Thank you very much for the interesting post. Have a nice day and great software development.

I wrote it feeling annoyed and frustrated 😉

I just wish that we were able to stop and enjoy some of it. I even asked if the-5yo-gorilla had somewhere that he needed to be!
