I have a background in programming movies for linear TV, and this is definitely a combination I would have come up with, back in the days.
The key to a successful double bill lies in finding an interesting theme.
This can be something obvious like genre, a specific actor, or back-to-back films by the same director, but also something more metaphysical like mood and tone.
For example โ the theme of the double presentation ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐ (๐ญ๐ต๐ต๐ฎ) / ๐จ๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฝ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฑ (๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฎ) is not only director Walter Hill and the Crime-Thriller genre, it is also the gritty, urban look and feel these two films share.
Had ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐ and ๐จ๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ฝ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฑ starred the same actor as well, it would have been a very rare four-quadrant double bill!
