Aliens: Reality or Fiction?
In the quiet nights of the desert or under the sky of a crowded city many people raise their eyes to the stars wondering: are we alone in this vast universe?
The idea of aliens has stirred controversy for decades as it combines scientific excitement with popular myths And with new discoveries such as the interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS and historical incidents like the one that happened in Roswell the question becomes more pressing: are they just fictional stories or is there a hidden secret?
The universe is full of surprises. In Drake’s equation which was set by the scientist Frank Drake in the sixties the existence of hundreds of intelligent civilizations in our galaxy alone is estimated And with modern telescopes such as James Webb, we are discovering more and more exoplanets that resemble Earth.
In April 2025 NASA announced the presence of gases indicating possible life on the planet K2-18 b, 124 light-years away As for the U.S. government reports about unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs) in 2021 and 2023 they speak of objects moving at speeds exceeding those of ordinary aircraft.
But is this conclusive evidence?
The SETI program has been listening to radio signals for decades without picking up a single sound And NASA scientists say that "extraterrestrial life is possible but unproven."
Also, if they truly exist why don’t we see them?
Perhaps because the universe is too vast or because their civilizations deliberately avoid us — or as some suspect because the U.S. government is covering up the matter.
The Roswell Incident and the Fall of a Flying Saucer
The roots of doubt go back to the summer of 1947 in Roswell New Mexico where a strange object fell in one of the farms there The U.S. Air Base at the time announced a “flying saucer” before retracting and saying it was a spy balloon.
But witnesses tell other stories: bodies of small gray creatures and a crashed craft that was transported to Area 51.
The book “Witness to Roswell” collects deathbed confessions from witnesses who spoke of receiving death threats if they talked about the matter.
In 1994 the U.S. Air Force issued a report denying everything considering the incident a test of military balloons But doubts still remain.
Why such extreme secrecy?
Did America fear an arms race with other beings or did it benefit from alien technology to develop its weapons?
Since then the state of Roswell celebrates an annual festival and alien dolls are sold as souvenirs.
3I/ATLAS: The Mysterious Visitor
Now in October 2025 the visitor 3I/ATLAS is approaching the Sun reigniting the debate.
It was discovered by the ATLAS system in July, and it is the third interstellar object of its kind after ‘Oumuamua and Borisov.
Its size is similar to Manhattan and it has become more active with a gaseous tail It will reach its closest point to the Sun on October 30, that is in two days at a distance of 1.4 astronomical units.
Avi Loeb says there is a “40% chance” that it is alien technology especially with the changes occurring in its path that resemble a “maneuver.”
Is it just an asteroid or a ship?
Some link this to the Roswell incident considering that such visitors might be the source of those events.
NASA and the European Space Agency are closely monitoring the event — but are they hiding data to avoid panic?
The upcoming solar conjunction may reveal radio signals — or prove that it is just a large passing rock.
In the end aliens remain a mystery that combines science and imagination.
