A blank wall doesn’t tell you what to do with it

I saw this wall today. Plain. Empty. Just standing there, doing absolutely nothing dramatic. No quotes, no graffiti, no “live, laugh, love” screaming for attention. And for some reason, it felt a lot like life.

A blank wall doesn’t tell you what to do with it. It doesn’t judge your choices either. You can leave it clean and simple, paint it with bright colours, add flowers, write poetry, or… honestly… spit on it, scribble nonsense, or dump all your frustration there. The wall won’t stop you.

Life is the same way.

We keep waiting for life to come decorated. Like it’s supposed to arrive already painted, meaningful, sorted. But it doesn’t. It hands you a wall and quietly steps back.

What you write on it depends on your mindset. If you wake up angry, the wall gets angry words. If you’re tired of trying, it gets half-finished lines and peeling paint. If you’re hopeful, even a little, you might add colour without realising it. One small flower in the corner.

One decent sentence that says, “Okay, maybe today won’t be that bad.”

Some people keep their walls neat. Minimal. No noise. Just space to breathe. Others go wild...colours everywhere, layers on layers, mistakes covered with new ideas. And some walls… well, some walls carry stains. Old ones. From moments we didn’t handle well. From things we wish we hadn’t written in permanent ink.

The funny part? We often walk past other people’s walls and judge them. “Too messy.” “Too boring.” “Too negative.”

But we never really know what tools they were given, or what storms hit their wall before ours did.

Life doesn’t force you to be happy or sad, motivated or stuck, positive or bitter. It just gives you space. And a choice. Every single day.

You can repaint. You can clean a corner. You can leave some words there as reminders of who you were and move on. You can even sit in front of the wall doing nothing for a while..and that’s okay too.

Not every day needs a masterpiece.

So if this wall were yours, what would you do with it?

Would you keep it calm and simple?
Fill it with colour and chaos?

Write jokes, dreams, or quiet truths only you understand?

Because in the end, life doesn’t care what you choose to write.

But you will.

Some leave it empty.
Some fill it with colour, dreams, and quiet courage.
Others let anger, fear, or old scars take over the space.

The wall doesn’t choose.
It simply holds whatever your mind places on it.

So before another day passes…
pause, look at your wall,
and ask yourself...
is it reflecting who you are, or who you’ve been?
