BRAIN ROT
Today I was scrolling through Instagram reels and reels about “brain rot” started appearing on my feed. At first I ignored them, but when they kept showing up again and again, I finally stopped and watched one. It explained what brain rot is, and I’ll tell you too:
“Brain rot” is a slang term describing mental fatigue, reduced attention span, and mental fog caused by excessive passive consumption of low-quality online content. It usually happens because of constant doomscrolling and overstimulation, which can make people feel distracted, anxious, and unable to focus properly.

The signs they mentioned were:
- Watching videos on 2x speed
- Constantly checking your phone
- Feeling bored without your phone
- Being addicted to Instagram
- Using your phone while eating
- Checking your phone first thing after waking up
- Never having quiet time
- Hating boredom
- Getting distracted easily
- Needing a mental reset
Almost every video mentioned similar signs.
When I watched them, I realized that I do almost all of these things. The first thing I do after waking up is check my phone. I use my phone while eating. Even when I’m doing some other work, I still keep something playing on my phone just so I can hear sounds or feel connected to it somehow. I already knew that I spend a lot of time on my phone, but I never thought it could actually become something unhealthy like this.
If I try to spend time without my phone, it feels difficult, and I always want it near me.
After watching those reels, I genuinely felt that this isn’t good for me and that I should improve myself. Then I started watching videos about how to fix it too, and now I’ll try to follow those things so I can feel better and healthier mentally.
Did you already know about brain rot? And do you think you’re affected by it too?
