The names we use to register for Gmail might not be the first thing we consider in the processing of doing the registration. Likewise in the processing of sending messages, we do not check which names will be appearing on the receivers side.

However, anytime an individual sends a message, the receivers sees a pop-up message indicating the name of the sender specifically using the Gmail even before the email address of the sender and then followed by the message.

As time pass by, a lot of things could happen and there might be the need to make changes to the name you have on your Gmail account. Either been it marriage, using name that was not linked to your real name or been an organizational requirements.

Many people will be wondering whether there is a difference between the username of their Gmail account and the Gmail name. It is a YES when this question is to be answered.

An individual with Gmail account name as abc@gmail.com can not change this address. However, the name that appears before the address can be changed. In the case of the below picture of the Gmail account Net Nathan is the name of the account that can be changed but the address name nathannet97@gmail.com can not be changed in any other way.

Below are the steps to fellow in other to change your email name.

One should be aware that this changes can be done only on the web version of google mail and not on the application. Therefore the following are the steps;

Open the Gmail on the web and sign in as shown below. After logging in, ensure you open the personal inform section of the page that opens in the picture below.

A page will pop up including both the names and and the details of the of the account in which you login. The information that appears includes name, sex, and date of birth and others. On the right hand side it is a greater than symbol. click on it as shown below.

It will than open a page we can easily edit and using the editing symbol shown in the right corner. One can therefore continue by clicking on the symbol as shown below.

After opening the symbol make the necessary changes and click on the save button and exit. I am happy to announce to you that you are done when you reach this point.

Just remember that this might take several minutes and few hours for the changes to take effect in your account. Having said that you are good to go because from this time onwards your Gmail account name has been changed.
