ACTS OF KINDNESS - GIVING OUT MOSQUITO NETS TO HOUSEHOLDS IN NAVRONGO - 10% to @ghanacare

in Steem Ghana4 years ago (edited)

Greetings everyone,

As indicated in the introductory post of our new charity project, we have started the first campaign which is themed : help combat malaria in the Navrongo community. We needed to first visit the pharmacy shops in the vicinity to find out whether they had the mosquito nets we needed for this campaign.

I therefore left with @marwone, @alhajibabajnr, @wonderbowy and @stephenoppong who were very happy about this activity and gave out their best to support the agenda. I had allocated 200 cedis for the cost of getting these nets as the project is so dear to me.

We initially paid a visit to the main pharmaceutical shop in town but upon arrival, they had run out. So we proceeded and kept on asking till we got some. We bought a total of 10 treated mosquito nets from the pharmaceutical shop in the Navrongo market area.

Bought a total of 10 nets for distribution among various households

Each net was carefully inspected to ensure that there were no punctures within the covers which would most likely mean holes within the nets as well, ruining its integrity.

Ongoing inspection of the mosquito nets in the pharmacy

Once we got back, we wanted to consider areas which are more prone than the less prone areas. And we learnt of a nursing mother who had recently given birth in one of the mud houses in the area.

As we got there, she was doing some washing at the backyard and the baby was sleeping in compound. We told her of our goal which is to help combat the spread of malaria within the Navrongo community which will help keep her and her baby safe.

Exchanging pleasantries with the woman

She was given relevant education such as the need to keep her surrounding clean as all times and clearing of weed surrounding her house. We then gave her the treated mosquito net and asked her to first wash and dry for 2 consecutive days. This removes the burning sensation you would get from sleeping under the unwashed net.

She was very grateful for this and we then proceeded to the next household.

Giving out the treated mosquito net with instructions

Once we got to the next household, the mother was busy preparing her meal when we interrupted her and gave her similar education. I then realized that it is not as if all of them are aware and neglect these precautions, but some are simply ignorant and need this education.

Arriving at the next household

She was very happy after receiving her mosquito net and even invited us for supper.

We had to bring our distribution to an end for today and continue another day.

Thank you for your attention.
