AVOID PUTTING YOUR KEYS IN YOUR TRANSFER "MEMOS" ‼ - HERE'S HOW TO CHANGE YOUR KEYS IF YOU'VE DONE SO.
Greetings everyone,
I have noticed that some newbies have made a very terrible mistake by putting their keys in the memo section during the transfers of their tokens in their steem wallets. This situation needs to be addressed promptly before any attempt is made on those accounts.
For the safety of their accounts, I won't put their usernames here but have spoken to them off-chain and given them specific instructions as to how to change their keys. This is therefore to caution the rest of us about the dangers involved in this and to completely refrain from it.
Here's an example of such a dreadful mistake.
If you are using your mobile device in portrait mode, you might not be aware that this is very public and anyone on the blockchain can see this. It is just like handing it over to everyone on steemit.
In such situations, the most advisable thing to do is to change your keys immediately. This prevents unauthorized access to your account.
HOW TO CHANGE YOUR KEYS AFTER IT HAS BEEN COMPROMISED
- Visit your wallet section using https://steemitwallet.com/@yourusername and then visit Change Password.
- Read the reset password rules and remember them.
- First enter your current password, then tap the click to generate new password. Now re-enter newly generated password. Be sure to check the boxes to indicate that you have understood and accepted the responsibility of your keys and have secured them. Now click Update Password.
Make sure the keys are all saved and backed somewhere offline and out of reach. This would prevent the possibility of a hack on your account.
I hope you would share this post with your friends so that no steemian would unknowingly do this again.
Thank you for your attention.
