Steem Women Club Contest #15 D.I.Y | Making a Luffa Bath Sponge

in SteemWomen Club3 years ago

Hello Ladies,

Today I'm going to share you a way to remove dead skin cells in a natural way. I didn't know natural Luffa(loofah) can be a bathing sponge until I went to my aunt house in last week. She showed me a plant in her garden and asked me whether I know the plant. I have seen the similar vegetable before but never knew that it could convert to a bathing sponge.

This surprise me and I wanted to make a sponge myself. This was the final out come and I'm super happy that now I know from which these bath sponge made 😅

Let's see how I did it 🙂

First you have to find a dried out Luffa. Luffa is a type of cucumber in the gourd family. Luckily I found it on my aunt's garden.

When it dried out the luffa will look like this,

These are the items I have used,

  • Dry Luffa
  • Fabric piece
  • Sponge
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hammer
  • Measure Tape
  • Stripes
  • Sewing Machine

2.jpg

  • Step 01 - Preparation of Luffa

Take the luffa and make it soften by patting with a hammer. This will make it easier to peel off the outer layer.

3.jpg

Cut one of the end to take seeds latter,

4.jpg

Now peel off the outer layer completely,

Then shake out all the seeds,

Soak the luffa into water and let it wet for a while. If there's any dirt remove those using a soap in this step, I gave a good wash under the tap to remove dirt.

Let the luffa dry out again for next process,

  • Step 02 - Convert Luffa to a beautiful Bath Sponge

Cut the luffa from long corners,

This is the look of the inside,

According to the preferred size you can cut around,

12.jpg

Then take a sponge and measure the luffa size in it,

14.jpg

Take a piece of cotton cloth and do the same step, however when you cut the cloth give about 01 cm extra space for sewing,

17.jpg

Now put the cloth, sponge and luffa together,

18.jpg

Use a sewing machine to sew the Luffa Bath Sponge,

This is after sewing,

Now fold the ends and sewing a piping,

21.jpg

Almost ready!

22.jpg

Using a strip I have decorated the Luffa Sponge and added a hook as well,

All done, this is the final product 😍

25.jpg

What you can do with this sponge

  • Bathing
  • Exfoliating scrub
  • Washing Dishes
  • To clean any households

And there you have it, time to rub off the dead skin 😁

Es muy útil esta esponja @hasini, felicidades!

Great work! These natural body sponges are available in supermarkets but it’s expensive. It’s really great to see you making it at home. The steps are well described and easy to follow.

Thanks for sharing your hard work!

Yes those are pretty expensive in the market. When I made this it was actually zero cost!

Wow @hasini actually it's really great and well explained ♥️♥️
